Fark U: I'd bet that this turd has never actually "recorded" nor "made" music "ever" to be quite honest about it.

So what, then, is your definition of music?

Seriously. I'm dying to know. Is it only stuff that you like?

Oh my god it is, isn't it.

By record, I believe you mean a producer, engineer and session musicians will play/program the tracks of the album for Britney to come in and lazily warble over, after which the crack production team will overdub and correct her pitch through auto-tune.

She's in the middle of recording Oohs and Ahhs for her next album

If it's anything like her last one.

What does the definition of music have to do with the original statement? The original statement conveyed the poster's opinion that Britney has little to do with the production of the content of her albums.

Having said that, I think the position that Britneys albums contain minimal, if any, music could be logically defended. I'd personally say music must contain some form of artistic expression, and I'm not sure Britney's albums contain such. And no, that has nothing to do with taste; I don't particularly care for most classical music, for example, but must respect its artistic expression. Britney's albums, however, seem to have been formulaically created with the intent to be marketed. I'd call them more music-like self-advertisement than music, I think...

Wrong. "Artistic expression" is entirely sseparate from the definition of any given medium. You don't get to redefine things based on whatever asinine criteria you feel is appropriate.

Saying that music has to be "artistic expression" because you feel like redrawing boundaries to exclude someone whose music is a tasteless cash-grab (which it is, certainly, but that doesn't make it not music) is like declassifying something as a table because you don't eat dinner off of it.

Seriously, you're an idiot. Good try though.

defiancecp 2008-08-27 06:31:18 PM
So how would you define music, then? Would a 400hz sine wave recorded to a CD count? I do believe I stated that the above was my "personal feelings", but hey, don't let that stop you from a good insult. Bravo!

Music made by the actual "musician"

You can't be seriously defending this industry created nonsense.

I'm not "defending" anyone. I don't think anyone actually likes this stuff--I think people that do are into something that definitely isn't the music. But I do think that it's music. Why? Because any definition of music that is reliant on actual qualities (rather than a definition that requires us to ask your dumb ass) wouuld consider it music--notes in sequence, rhythm, etc.

Regardless of who performs what, music is music. It doesn't become "not music" just because it's "bad music"
