(Starpulse) Interesting Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham currently working on new material -- without Robert Plant. Which is a problem, since the band needs his irreplaceable expertise to sing "baby baby baby" ad nauseum, on every track   (starpulse.com) divider line 32

No, the problem is that it's JASON Bonham collaborating, who is a talentless waste of space compared to his dad.

That's like saying McCartney, Zombie Harrison and Sean Lennon are writing new material.

Miles D Davis Jr.: Zombie Harrison

I was into Zombie Harrison before he was popular

So, apparently, getting Zeppelin back together (even ignoring the Bonham substitution) is like herding cats.

As long as they don't call it Led Zeppelin, who cares? If they do, they're doing it wrong.

Plant had a great blusey rock voice, but he is one of the worst, bland, trite lyricists around.

Damn close? I've not heard one thing that suggests he's anywhere near John. If you want close to the originator look no further than Jon Theodore, who is a far more proficient drummer and, thankfully, has stayed far as fark away from Ted Nugent.

If you really think that Jason Bonham is one of the world's best drummers then good for you, but you are most certainly wrong. He's not terrible, and comparing him to Sean Lennon may be a stretch, but please don't try to tell me I know nothing of drumming when you are the one saying that he's one of the best drummers in the world.

For your information, top (living) drummers that I've seen, live:

Jack DeJohnette, Neil Peart, Thomas Pridgen, Billy Martin, Billy Cobham and Jon Theodore

I should have also pointed out I saw Bonzo live and Jason doesn't come close. My partial list:

John Bonham, Keith Moon, Barriemore Barlow, Neal Peart, Rod Morgenstein, Chad Wackerman,
Alan White (mine's more of a rock list, I guess)

/always wanted to see Cobham live

I saw him with The Who and I'd have to say Zak Starkey is "better" with them. SP may be a more proficient player but Zak can ghost Moon like nobody else and that is more important
/my point: can JB ghost his dad?
//haven't heard anything by them so....

I'm no expert on drumming, but it definitely appears to me that the Jason Bonham selection is more about name recognition and maybe friendship/loyalty than it is about his drumming skills.

Bingo

Musicology101 [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 08:34:52 PM
Correct. If there was no Jason Bonham, there would not even be a discussion about Zep. It is a family affair, not them wanting to find the best drummer in the world to sit in John's chair.
Only Jason gets that opportunity. Thankfully, he's pretty good.

Also, as far as great drummers go, I have to add Mickey Hart to the list. I'd love to have seen his recent tour with the Rolling Thunder Review.

MY VOTE:
Alex Lifeson should produce the record.

Vocalists: Get an all star cast...
Daltrey
Gabriel
Lennox
et. al. ibid.
