commercials for Little Mosque On The Prairie flogged by CBC during the Games

Those commercials annoyed me, one for being overplayed and also calling it Canada's favourite comedy. Does anyone even watch that show?
I saw it once and thought it was trying to hard to be Corner Gas but failed.
But I guess if we're happy with mediocrity, then that show should rank on top.

I'll be over here writing a polite letter of somewhat less than complete enthusiasm.

I make it my mission in life to be as Canadian as possible under the circumstances.

Some people call me a daredevil - I was the first to try cherry-flavoured popsicles when they started selling them here last year and they were good but the cherry flavour hurt my mouth and I hurled it to the floor of the Mac's Milk - but that's just the way I roll, if it's OK with you. Is it OK with you?

And thank you very much for reading this comment.

You do realize that calling it "Mac's Milk" shows how old you are, eh?

I don't think that store has been called "Mac's Milk" since the late 70s.

Well he's got a point. You can be moderate and still have some fire in you for god's sake. Just because your neighbor to the south (hi!) comes off as all kinds of insane, doesn't mean you have to go the exact opposite direction. You've got a huge spectrum of behavior to cover before anyone in the world goes "Oh hell, it's the Canadians. They're such a pain in the ass."

/Moderation good, doormat bad!

I don't like change. Except when I get a bunch from the Brewer's Retail when I get off the chesterfield and take back a few cases of stubbies. Otherwise, change puzzles and frightens me.

Maybe not officially, but you still see it refered to as Mac's Milk in the papers and on the news when one gets robbed.

One of the greatest crimes in the history of North America is that "Trailer Park Boys" isn't on American televsion, but "Corner Gas" is.

Can someone explain this to me?

Yep, pretty much. It was ridiculous. BBC America must've realized quickly that it was pointless to try to air an edited version of that show because, like I said, it was only on for a very short time.

When it's on during primetime (5:00PM-8:00PM) up here (on Showcase, generally) it's censored for language - which, for a show of its nature, is an absurd exercise in futility. It truly does need to be shown in its original form though - very few shows come anywhere close to being as funny as uncensored Trailer Park Boys.

"Judge: Now although I am opposed to that kind of language in the courtoom, I'm going to allow it, as unfortunately it is part of your right to a fair trial.

Ricky: The defense rests, everybody can fark off. Except you (points to the judge) I didn't mean you. But those two guys, and him (pointing to the prosecutor). Can you get out of the way? (to camera man) Please!"

Didn't a lot of convenience stores have signs that described them as 'milk' stores? Becker's used the plastic jugs like the US had, but wasn't there one called Bantam? At least in Southern Ontario.

"In women's field hockey, for instance, a group of parents and supporters came forth with four proposals to make sure the team gets to the Games in 2012 after failing to reach Beijing."

How much you want to bet those four proposals were
(1) Give us more money,
(2) Give us more money,
(3) Give us more money,
and (4) Get CSIS to assassinate all the other players
?

I love Canada, and I enjoyed the Olympics... but I'm proud that my country prioritizes health-care and peace in Afghanistan over a nationalistic dick-waving competition. Our mediocre medal-showing is fine with me.

Oh, and the CBC coverage sucked donkey balls. From inscrutable camera work and editing to painful non-sport segments (Sook Yin Lee, Jian Ghomeshi, I love you guys, really I do - The Wedge was cool, and so was Moxy Fruvous - but seriously, STFU NAO!), to those painfully bad Little Mosque ads, it was just driving me batty. It's like they WANT us to question their funding.

As a Canadian, we like the world to think we're mediocre.
We don't want people flooding our country, we love being smally-big[sic]. We have resources and we appreciate them.

No Such Agency 2008-08-26 01:13:47 PM
Ah, "Little Mosque on the Prairie"... The difference between Canada and the US is that in our shows, Muslims are these goofy weird neighbours who move into a small oddball community and wackiness ensues. In American TV shows they try to blow up Los Angeles and get tortured by Jack Bauer.

Anyway this article is rubbish, the Olympics don't measure a country's worth or even the real worth of its sports policy. In fact they exist only to make money. There, I said it. We should be happy for athletes who have excelled, but their accomplishments are not our own, no matter what team jacket they wear. And anyone who finishes "only" fourth in any Olympic event could probably clean this writer's clock at any sport, so how about some STFU, Bruce Dowbiggin.

Probably, but there's also no getting around the fact that any federally-connected initiative in Canada involves a labyrinth of pointless regulations and small-minded officialdom which almost instantly neuters it and slows it to a crawl.

I mean seriously - I work with Federal Agencies. Things are over-managed and over-regulated to a point where it is a miracle that anything gets done, ever.
