FTA: The items at the estate sale belonged to a U.S. Navy veteran who recently died,

When I leave a job I raid the office supplies closet... this guy took it to a whole other level.

Once I was walking out of an office building and my boss was standing out back smoking a cigarette with a few others. We were taking empty boxes out for an apartment move I was making. He made a remark that all his budget walks out the doors with his employees, carrying stuff away. We all had a good laugh.

I had a LaserJet 5 in the bottom box.

FTA But just in case there was any doubt, Faulkner County Sheriff Karl Byrd made sure to stress that owning dynamite or plastic explosives without permission is "definitely illegal."

I don't know why I think that sentence is so funny but it is.

Nice. Any other cliches around?

I don't know what it is with old people and stockpiling explosives. My grandfather had a box of TNT in his barn; we had to call in the RCMP to take it out.

/they're preparing
//but keep forgetting

Because of its utter absurdity? On the same lines, I also liked this FTA: "charges weren't likely as the presumed owner of the explosives is dead".

starzman2003 2008-08-24 11:33:01 PM
Workers quickly called 911. The Conway Fire Department's bomb squad put the aging explosives inside a special container and drove them out to an isolated spot to destroy them, district chief Jon McMahon told the Log Cabin Democrat newspaper.

I read that as Jon Mclog. I guess I went full retard all of the sudden.

Outlawtsar 2008-08-24 11:35:54 PM
It would have been better if it had been one of those "unopened box" sales and the new owner find it out...then be charged for owning the explosives.

WTF?

I love unopened box sales. I don't feel like searching, but there was this Civil War memorabilia collector who blew himself up while cleaning a cannonball. Apparently there was shrapnel almost a mile away.

Woulda been more cliche' if he was the one who pulled the switch on the electric chair.

TheMega 2008-08-24 11:40:38 PM
Deputies continued to investigate the incident, but charges weren't likely as the presumed owner of the explosives is dead, he said.

Don't let the fact that the person is deceased let that stop them from wasting taxpayer's money on a drawn out investigation and charges that mean nothing, and accomplish exactly the same.

Does the second half of the second sentence to the end of the third have anything to do with the first sentence and the first half of the second?

No. I like unopened box sales was meant to be a response to another post.

Don't need to be a ROTC type to have love for that suitcase! So much fun to be had. Hell, just drop a small piece of C4 into the carry on of your most hated manager at work or if one were an evil type, ie not anyone who would post on fark of course... you could just randomly drop pieces into peoples bags as they wait in line at the ticket counter!!!

Duh-oh! Ya really think so? 'Without permission,' ya mean sort of like skipping class, ahem...

Entirely possible, especially if you worked for Citadel or Clear Channel.
