Okay, I'm Catholic and this story reminds me of what I do not get about my religion. With the exception of Hindus, no other religion pretties up their religious figures. How many times have you seen a picture of Jesus? He's usually a pretty man. Even with the crown of thorns, he's still portrayed as pretty. I call the phenomena; "Creepy Hot Jesus".

Even in movies and in films, the actors who usually play Jesus are good looking actors such as Christian Bale and James Caviezel.

Why is this so?

Heh. It's probably all marketing, just like why the Virgin Mary was inserted into Catholic doctrine in the first mumble centuries AD. (Nothing in the Bible says she stayed a virgin forever. Isn't there at least one reference to Jesus having a brother? ... Half-brother, I guess.)
