Holy shiat! She's still around?

I thought she was buried by gigantic flying cocks a few years back...

Sigh.

Why are they protesting at the DNC about the war? And don't give me any "democratic congress" shiat. The republicans will filibuster or Bush will veto anything the democrats try to push through regarding the war. So who the fark are they protesting to?

I'm positive Sheehan will vote for McCain anyway. We pull out of Iraq and she's going to have to find a job.

Christ. Why does the media still pay attention to this woman? I used to like her, back when she had a point and was doing this in memory of her slain child. Those days have long since passed.

submitter does realize that "fighting" and "peace" are not opposites, right?

That you can "fight for peace" without using violence, is something I'm SURE submitter gets.

Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. understood that, so I'm sure submitter does too.

Do yourself a favor and don't give up your day job writing speeches for John McCain.

FTFA "I don't want anybody to get hurt, but I want you to stand up for your right to be heard,"

Just where does the right to be heard come from?

JessicaRaven 2008-08-24 07:30:33 PM
I find it amusing

Channel 7 news "the police were ready but the protests were peaceful and had sparce attendance"

Fox News "it was utter chaos in Denver, as thousands of protesters were rioting in the streets prompting the SWAT team to be dispatched"

my mother after seeing both reports "Channel 7 is a pawn of the liberal media, and is just covering up the truth to make people feel better"

they could be passing a bill to end the war each week, let Bush veto all of them, but they aren't. they want to keep it around long enough to campaign on it again.

also you overrate the power of the filibuster, after about the 50th bill they will lose their interest to stand up and talk for 6 days straight.

making the Pubs stand up and filibuster all this crap would only make them look like fools, if the Dems really wanted to change things they would have done something about it.

/dems have been controlling the money for 2 years
//look how far that's gotten us

You people show no respect or Cindy and her Murdered son. What, do you think he just volunteered to join Bush's military? Well... he may have, but that doesn't mean he can just be sent to a War to die. When you join the Military you HAVE to do what your commanding officers tell you to do, and if you decide not to they throw you in Jail. That sounds a little extreme to me. He probably didn't even know what he was getting into, like all us homeowners who were tricked into interest only loans.

(Morbo) Filibusters do not work that way!! (/morbo)

Seriously, they don't. On the War, they're a minority thanks to Lieberman. Without a soild majority, the Republicans can take any vote and shut it down.

Weekly votes are just weekly reasons for Bush's talking men, from Rush to Alies, to go crazy about how the Democrat congress won't get real work done, and how they hate America.

They do that anyway, but ya don't leave yourself open to punches.

There isn't a way to close this war with legislative means right now. You're not being at all fair. And even if we vote to leave tomorrow, we can't just pick up and leave. It will be a phased withdrawal over months.

Sorry you can't accept reality or practicality.

TommyBahama 2008-08-24 09:33:04 PM
you're right, the Dems constantly passing some sort of end the war bill (be it now or time table) would only make the Pubs look better. Because it allows them to do what they already do (talk up the war). but instead of having the party stand up and say no to the war in a very vocal way each week they rather say "why bother protesting this war like we were elected too, its not going to change anything." that's the kind of group i want running the country.

/they are not putting up a fight because THEY DO NOT WANT TO
//you elected them to end a war they, and they have no interest in even paying you the slightest lip service.

So you're saying that the Bush administration isn't actively trying to get our troops out of Iraq?

Then what's Condi been doing? (withdraws)

Seems to me "End the War" and "Bring Our Troops Home" are now slogans for the Republicans, who are actually accomplishing those goals...

And you don't see that as massively hypocritical?

There really should be a national prestigious award given to people who have had their character assassinated by the right wing while trying to do some good for the country. The list is endless.

If ending the war makes me a hypocrite...

Nobody likes war, no matter how much the Dems believe Repubs do. Results count. Obama wants to go deeper into Afghanistan.

Yeppers. Just how many of our military people do not agree with the situation, whom can do nothing but follow orders. I'd just about bet their votes had been tampered with in the primaries. And of course if you were to speak up, you become a target.

I'd vote for Sheehan just based on the fact that she is not your professional politician.

/If they don't work for you, they deserve to be removed from office.

Actually, the "Republicans will veto everything lulz" line is the propaganda bit, the Democratic congress argument is more or less correct, as most votes are largely bipartisan anyhow and who the majority is is responsible for more of what gets introduced.

I know we don't like the Republican party, but you have to accept actual reality at some point. And even if you don't like reality, just ask yourself if you blame republicans for the last seven years -- because their majority was not filibuster-proof so your argument technically absolves them of all failures to take action to, say, protect our civil rights.

//It's not so much the Dems not doing anything to stop the occupation as them actively voting in support of it, while we're exploing the whole 'actual reality of politics' thing.
