How does ranting about stupiid behavior in a public forum make her a busybody. If she'd confronted the people, sure, but just sounding off? No.

Benevolent Misanthrope [TotalFark] 2008-08-24 12:12:42 PM
"To the couple pushing a toddler in a stroller around Green Lake on Aug. 13. Your little boy was watching a DVD on his lap, complete with headphones for easy listening. Are you kidding me? Your child does not need an activity to keep him occupied while on a walk; the walk is the activity! If your child can't go for 60 minutes without watching TV, you have a big problem. Whatever happened to watching the scenery and talking about what you see? Please, at least give him a book to look at instead."

Waitaminnit... So, you object to the DVD because it's interrupting the character-building properties of a good walk, but a book interrupting the character-building properties of a good walk would have been acceptable?

Christ - you're such a biatch, you have to make up things to biatch about! I bet if they had been "the couple pushing a toddler in a stroller around Green Lake on Aug. 13, doing nothing while your child screamed his head off and disturbed 'other people's' nature walk" (i.e., yours), you would have been demanding a book or DVD to keep the kid quiet.

I agree with kona. Clease. With fire.

I can think of at least a couple of good reasons that the parents might have done this. If the child has has extended indoor time due to health reasons, for example, the DVD might have made him feel comfortable as he is eased into being in public.

Autism could be another reason.

It's so much easier for small-minded judgmental idiots to jump to unwarranted conclusions, though.

I, for one, uterly resent and even abhor the behaviour of whoever it was in that article, which I didn't read, and hope that someone gets their just desserts. Pudding, anyone?

/Was already sick of outrage, and now we are getting outrage about other people being outraged? WTF?

The easy conclusion is more likely to be the correct one.

Is it possible the parents were having an important family discussion that they wanted to keep private from their young child? Just a though.

/Parent of three kids under three

I wonder what age this child will be exposed to reality?

Woman: I dunno, John. I don't think his ears are big enough.

Man: Trust me! My uncle worked with a circus for over forty-five years. We can sell this kid to the freak show and get at LEAST $500 from it.

Well, that particular rant does seem a little stupid but the rant about the couple who left their dog in the car on one of the hottest days of the year really pissed me off. Those people ought to be shot on site.

cksewell [TotalFark] 2008-08-24 01:31:12 PM
This biatch sees the family for what, a minute, and draws conclusions and labels them bad parents. It must be nice to live in her perfect world. Biatch!

Rhames 2008-08-24 01:31:18 PM
Bah bah bah. TV GOOD! Bah bah bah. Teletubies listens to the kiddies. They show the tubbies do silly goofy junk. A baby DEMANDS again. And they rewind and show the clip again. WTFark?

Put the Bernie Mac show on, that has lots of colors on it, at least according to stewie. RIP Bernie, 'Merica luvs u

Where can I get this job? How much do they pay per word to write this stuff? I can point out idiots and nice people and write blurbs about them all day. It would be like getting paid to comment on Fark all day. Which I used to do. Used to. Damn internet filters.

Make sure you get their car keys first.
Actually, prolly easier to get them after the shooting.

Rant "To the people in the silver Mercedes who dined at the Northgate Stanfords on Aug. 14. You left your Airedale terrier in your vehicle with the windows cracked on one of the hottest days of the summer. I saw the poor thing was in complete distress, panting and salivating feverishly. I called animal control, who came and found you dining in the restaurant. When confronted you merely rolled down the windows and went back to finish your meal. Do you realize that even on overcast, cooler days, temperatures inside your car can reach 120 to 130 degrees in less than half an hour? Shame on you."

Key the door of Silver Mercedes. Poor dog, and I can't believe the animal control officer didn't cite the couple.

daveydave 2008-08-24 01:35:36 PM
Good. Don't expose children to nature. It's all going to be gone in a few years once global warming kicks in.

Wrong_Intentions 2008-08-24 01:36:12 PM
I actually agree with busybody. I think somebody should give those parents a copy of Being There.

Strollers are for the weak and lazy. Carry your kid until they can walk on their own. It's great exercise.

Considering they didn't, the complainer is probably the crazy one. People freak out when I leave my dog in my car all the time. Sometimes I keep the windows up to keep the cold air inside the car.

From overheard in New York:

Seven-year-old boy: You know Britney's on crack, she's on crack. And your girl Lindsay is so going to jail for selling cocaine. That Britney is crazy.
Aunt: That boy watches too much TV.

Notice the ranters don't have to have their named printed. I would bet that Ms. Busybody wouldn't have posted if she thought others would know who she was.

It's quite possible that parents who didn't deserve to be shot on sight could somehow manage to keep a kid quiet and entertained without a farking DVD player.

humanconditioner [TotalFark] 2008-08-24 01:50:54 PM
A former coworker had a kid a few years back and after a couple of years staying at home alone with her son all day, she decided to take him to some sort of day care program where the kids could play and the parents could speak to actual people for a change.

They were planning a move and while she was telling another woman about it, the woman's daughter asked how many DVDs was that.

The mother told her about three.

The kid measured distance by how many videos she could watch during the car ride.

Call me a busybody but i find that kinda sad.

The only sure way to always keep a toddler quiet is crib death.

it's really hard to make it look accidental these days.

Ranter undermines her own argument with the "book" suggestion.

HystericalParoxysm 2008-08-24 01:58:53 PM
Eh, gotta say I agree with the "busybody." People in general, not just kids, are stuck in front of tvs and such far too often. Let the kid go feed the ducks or play in the dirt. Y'know, out of the stroller and tottering around - if they're big enough to walk, they can walk themselves.

My sister puts on a DVD for 15 minute trips to the store for her kids. Drives me batshiat when the kids whine and cry until you put on a DVD for them.

/Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to spend the next two hours on my PC, and then watch some TV till I'm sleepy enough to go to bed.

That's right.

Almost all kids do that now.
It scares the crap out of me. Also, it makes me wonder how many will have eye issues from watching tv and being in a moving vehicle all their lives.

The kid measured distance by how many videos she could watch during the car ride.

If only they'd had that during my childhood. I could have done all my TV watching in the car on the oppressive sunny drives around suburbia my mom dragged me on nearly every single day, which would have left me more time to play outside and exercise during the times we weren't driving around.

I had a brother who died of crib death a decade and a half before I was born, so I really should be offended by these replies... *snicker*

When I was a kid (and hell, to this day) if I'm a passenger in a car, or when I was in a stroller I'd stare into space and daydream. T-rexes would be chasing our car, or I'd be riding my bike on the telephone wires and people's roofs, I was never bored. I fear for today's kids, as they will grow up with no imagination. With that, I fear for art, TV, and anything involving the creative process in a couple decades.
