Hmm. Good point. I probably would feel a bit better from shouting "Stop trying to save my soul, and stop the damned bleeding!" and then flailing about until I kicked him in the head.

I also wonder how long it will take before they pick up an injured person who does not subscribe to the faith of the chaplain, only to be prayed upon anyway.

Mm. When I was training to be EMS, I went and got ordained too. So I could provide medical care to the injured and comfort to the frightened. Only if they wanted it, of course.

Since being on Fark, I've had people try to shove anti-faith rhetoric down my throat constantly -- even though I've never tried to convince anyone to have faith if they don't.

If I wake up in an Ambulance and there is a priest I had best be 99.9% guaranteed to be dying or else im going to make $8 Farkillian dollars when I sue the Hospital for the Heart Attack such a scenario would enduce.

So is everyone ignoring studies by all the major medical journals that show that people who praying to a deity thing-a-ma-bob do better than people who don't?

It's not that the deity helps them, it's that they're using their minds to help in healing processes.

Suppose you whacked your leg with a chainsaw. Prayer to whatever you believe in (God, Allah, fair godmother, your left shoe) could help prevent you from going into shock, having a panic attack, etc. EMTs are busy stopping the blood and whatnot.

Would you seriously begrudge someone a chaplain that might actually be able to help on the ride to the hospital?

Unlike in Pennsylvania where the Chaplains are provided for you on your emergency trip to the hospital. Funny, I don't see them offering a non-religious alternative.
