Don't underestimate Biden. He could easily help swing Pennsylvannia towards Obama.

I find it a little unsettling that the lunatic fringe who think it's unnatural, abhorrent, or 'an abomination' to have a black person ruling the country are now only a heartbeat away from 'restoring the natural order of things'

You kidding? The Republicans would've LOVED to see him pick Hillary. They have so much stuff they could've used on her.

Yeah, when I thikn of a candidate with no history or baggage Clinton is the first that comes to mind!!!

lolz

also, Biden bland? That is one of the most inaccurate things I've ever heard.... unless you just mean as a choice. Because he is smart, witty and a battler. He had the most memorable moments of the campaign "Rudy thinks a sentence is a noun a verb and 9/11"! Dude is not bland at all for a politician.

FTFA: Yesterday, the McCain campaign released a memo saying that Obama should receive a 15-point (!!!) bounce from his convention.

Uh, of course they did. Politics 101 - Raise expectations for the other guy, and keep pounding away at that. Obama would be really lucky to get a 15 point bounce, so when he (likely) doesn't, McCain can point to that as "evidence" that Obama is underperforming.

He had a history in that he lied in 80s.

The same period where McCain was involved in the Keating 5.

I don't think it's going to become factor, though the McCain team MAY shoot itself in the foot and bring it up. Who knows.

Biden was campaigning against Obama? YOU DON'T SAY!

P.S. - if the reports are true and McCain picked Romney, um...can the Republicans even THINK one step ahead here and realize Democrats have a plethora of "THE VP NOMINEE DOESN'T LIKE THE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE!" of their own?

Gonna be hard to argue your the candidate of change with Joe Biden on your ticket.

Biden doesn't just help in PA though, he is popular through the rust belt region, where obama has had some struggles. He is also really popular (even MORE popular than Hillary) with old democrats, w hich will help with Florida and such.

Jim Webb I can see, but you are an idiot if you were more afraid of Richardson than Biden. He has NOTHING that Biden doesn't have in a larger amount, and his downsides are worse (he is a horrible debater and even more of a gaffe machine than Biden).

His hispanic appeal is overrated.

Things I don't like about Biden: He's in bed with the banking and credit card industries (helped spearhead the bankruptcy "reform" legislation a couple of years ago); he's a senator when I would have rather seen a pick with executive experience (two senators - is this a ticket, or a debating society?); he's too vanilla to extend the Obama "new kind of politics" brand. Also, he looks exactly like my Uncle Dick, who is very aptly named.

Things I like about Biden: He's a devoted family man; he's relatively middle-class for a senator; he takes Amtrack to and from work. He's a serious pitbull, who has chunks of guys like McCain in his stool. He's not bland. He helps a lot with the Appalachian demographic, which is Obama's big weakness.

On balance, I think he's probably okay. I just wish he didn't look so much like my Uncle Dick. Dude gives me the creeps.

I'm not questionging the influence of HISPANICS in the election, I'm questioning Richardson's influence amongst hispanics. I don't think Richardson would give nearly the polling bump Biden will.

Especially when you consider that Richardson is a "traitor judas" in the eyes of Clintonites, while Biden is well liked by them.

The same party that has made an industry out of demonizing Hillary and Bill for years is then suddenly "concerned" about Obama and feels sorry for her during the primaries. She riles up the base more than just about any Democrat, you can bet they wanted to go against her.

Yep. For them, that would've been the next best thing to getting Clinton at the top of the ticket. Plus, the GOP would've brought out every negative thing that she has ever said about Obama. And run it over and over and over. We think Biden's statement about Obama in the debate is bad - that's nothing compared to the ammo of the same flavor that the GOP would have with Hillary in the VP slot.

Who exactly is Biden going to get a bump from to give to BO, Bill? The HUGE and underrated population of Delaware? The slightly upper middle class whites who see themselves as vulnerable to economic change? My hunch is BO has all the support now he is ever going to get from those segments even without Biden.
And my hunch is you may be seeing a few campaign quotes from Biden about Obama in Republican Ads.
