You could have at least spelled his name correctly.

/RIP

He's no Neil Peart

Most recorded? I don't think so.

I think that one goes to Hal Blaine.

Buddy Harman: Better than Buddy Rich.

/Hell yeah, I said it.

He also played drums on Ween's "12 Golden Country Greats" album. So he had that going for him.

/Which is nice

He wasn't even good. Def Leppard's drummer could easily outplay him.

This I did not know. Respect.

Hmmm according to Hal's web site he claims 35,000 tracks. Though be interesting to see a full count of both his and Harmon's recording totals. Course be fun to see how much other session players, not just drummers have done, like Donald Dunn or Larry Carlton.

FTFA: Nashville's best-known and most-recorded drummer.

-8,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 for subby.

OK, that's a little over the top.

There's no way he could have been most-recorded because Hal Blaine was recording commercials, soundtracks to TV shows and all that, those opportunities just weren't there in Nashville.

In any case, he was no Carl Palmer or Bill Bruford.

Buddy Harman was good, but he was no Neil Peart.
Neil Peart's good, but he's no Carl Palmer.
Carl Palmer's good, but he's no Elvin Jones.
Elvin Jones was good, but he's no Buddy Harman.

Different songs require different styles of musicianship. Imagine Patsy Cline's "Crazy" with Buddy Rich hammering the Hell out of the drums and oh, I dunno... Dimebag Darrell on guitar. Doesn't really work, does it?

That's why you get the right guy for the job, ya knuckleheads.

The way these idiotic Fark threads go....
Dumbasses trying to compare Meg White to Neil Peart....etc.

We should have a contest--who can create the most asinine musical comparisons?

Here is mine:

Neil Diamond is good,
but he is no Celtic Frost.

Thosw 2008-08-23 10:37:21 AM
Gregory C. Coleman? (new window)

LMAO. Wouldn't a Celtic Frost album of Neil Diamond covers kick (or perhaps lick) total ass?

or a Neil Diamond album of Celtic Frost covers. Either way, chock fulla win.

Well said, sir.

/Neko Case is good, but she's no Voivod

Oh, goodnight Buddy.

Wonder what him and the rest of the guys that played on Ween's 12 Golden thought of the songs? Mr. Richard what? Um.. ok.. what key?

Well duh, thanks for pointing out the obvious. Had it ever occurred to you that we were kidding, that the idea of comparing a Nashville drummer with Carl Palmer is absurd on the face it? Did you think about that for even for just one second before coming in here with your Grampa Simpson act?

-2 for GibbyTheMole.

Don't know how obvious that is.... check out pretty much every music thread. Even some of the best don't get it, see Neil Peart on Burnin' for Buddy, totally out of his element, he just ain't swingin', I like what he does with Rush but he is not a big band drummer. The looks from the horn players are priceless.

In the same vein:

King Diamond is good,
but he's no Barry Manilow.

How 'bout: Kate Bush is good but she's no Gwar.

or Captain Beefheart is good but he's no George Jones.

/thread fodder for sure!
