Typically, Republicans seem unable to grasp the idea of saving money by not spending it in a redundant way. The convention is free national advertising. No reason to weaken his war chest when he's getting all this free publicity during McCain's first major gaffe session.

What site is that from? All the polls I've seen suggest a slight GOP lead in OH with VA up in the air. Just wondering.

Considering that McCain is the Kerry of the right, well I wouldn't say it's a lock but it's looking pretty good for the Obama camp.

4 Years from now when the neocon weasels have thoroughly passed the buck for the entire war off to the Dems everyone will be discussing whether Obama really "won" anything.

dumbandilikeit [TotalFark] 2008-08-22 07:40:06 PM
Ummm..I live in NC and they are still running plenty of Obama ads. Just saw a new one today.

Halfmast Trousers [TotalFark] 2008-08-22 07:44:55 PM
I'm in California and do see any ads for anyone so far.

Glad to see we're a "blue" state, after producing both Nixon and Reagan.

valloned [TotalFark] 2008-08-22 07:56:19 PM
...either that or the Obama campaign is smart to realize that they will get 10x more exposure, for free, over the next week between the VP annoncement and the DNC. Saving that money for later seems like a good idea to me...

robsul82 [TotalFark] 2008-08-22 09:09:11 PM
If true, they're just doing it for convention week. Why spend money when you don't have to?

eqtworld: Tied (or a 2 point Obama lead that has been dwindling for weeks) is "looking pretty good"???

All of that was a result of McCain's sleaze machine hitting Obama and Obama not hitting back. Now he is.

And pre- "I don't know how many houses I have"

And pre- mainstream media saying "maybe McCain is going to the 'I was a POW' well a bit much"

Right now, "things are looking pretty bad" for McCain.

And, of course, McCain had a good lead on Obama in March. . .so how come the War Hero, experienced, foreign policy expert maverick can't close this out?

Solid State Vittles 2008-08-22 10:41:58 PM
I wasn't aware that 7 states out of 50 constitutes "most." Besides, North Dakota, Alaska, and Montana are more like counties when it comes to the significance of their electoral votes.

Americans clearly have a bias against POW's.

Edsel 2008-08-22 11:38:31 PM
Why the hell would he spend the money now, when he's going to dominate every news cycle for the next week anyway? You Republitards are so goddamned stupid sometimes.

RevMercutio [TotalFark] 2008-08-22 11:39:04 PM
It says in TFA that he specifically did it in the red states. Were they the same states he was going negative in the local areas against McCain? Maybe they didn't play as well as they wanted them to?

I'm in a blue state, so I dunno.

mcwebe0 [TotalFark] 2008-08-22 11:40:01 PM
eqtworld: Really? With the national polls pretty much tied with 10 weeks to go?

Tied (or a 2 point Obama lead that has been dwindling for weeks) is "looking pretty good"???

You do realize that the presidential election is not a national poll, right?

The two interesting ones are Florida and Virginia.

Florida was not going Obama this time-- but retreating in Virginia?

Came here to say the same thing.

By the way everyone, I was watching the news tonight and heard that John Mcain is a former POW. Has anyone been able to confirm?

dumbandilikeit Ummm..I live in NC and they are still running plenty of Obama ads. Just saw a new one today.

Yes, the ads that they have already paid for will undoubtedly continue to air, so that the stations do not have to refund the contracted money.

Actually, Colorado and Ohio belong under weak GOP.

Peter von Nostrand 2008-08-22 11:43:57 PM
This illustrates the problem with the electoral college. In the end, the election comes down to a few "swing states" and the candidates tailor their campaigns to win those states. I suppose at the end of the day, candidates are going to write off certain states and one system or the other is going to facilitate which states get written off and which states get more focus that the others. Who knows if a straight popular vote would be a better system or not. However, it seems to me that this would force candidates to focus on what's better for the country as a whole as opposed to what's best for certain segments of the country.

/or maybe I shouldn't pontificate about politics after drinking

Unless he's going with Kaine and feels that he will push him over the edge in Virginia.

Svedish Meatballs 2008-08-22 11:46:25 PM
I think maybe the Democrats should just stop competing for the Presidency. The Republicans are just too good at winning Presidential elections. When Obama loses, I guarantee people will be saying that the Democrats picked the one candidate who couldn't win, that they somehow managed against all odds to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yet again. They're ignoring the elephant in the room, so to speak ... anybody the Democrats pick is the one candidate who couldn't win. So what's the point of competing? You spend half a billion dollars and wind up with nothing.

The First 2008-08-22 11:47:40 PM
If those states still think a Republican is the one for the job, then they deserve their homes foreclosed, high gas prices, low income, privacy invaded, more taxes, longer war(s), etc.

Can't stand arrogant people who refuse to see that change is not always bad.

Well then...I'm not nuts. By your definition anyway.

Lunchlady 2008-08-22 11:53:35 PM
Why is this election so one sided with projections of "doing well" and "winning"? All we hear about is how terrible Obama is doing, but I haven't heard a peep about McCain's strategy or how he's doing. I understand that the election coverage is one sided, but at this point I don't want McCain to win because he just seems boring for lack of his side.
