(Daily Kos) Dumbass McCain's new attack ad claims that Obama has never had to worry about a family budget, "but we do." Well, when your family budget has a quarter million dollars for servants, you probably do actually worry about it   (dailykos.com) divider line 241

I'm sorry, but I still can't get past the fact that a career politician that used his father's connections to get through the naval academy and then to get started in politics and then left his wife and married a rich younger woman with political connections is calling the black kid that was born to a single mother and grew up in inner-city Chicago an elitist.

That was brilliant. Thank you for summarizing it so succinctly.

Is he retarded? Yeah, Obama, the guy who finally paid off his college loans just a few years ago, doesn't know what it's like to worry about a budget. Right.

I believe the official Republican counterpoint to that is "elitism isn't about money, connections or anything tangible, its about a vaguely described attitude that we want to perceive"

The McCains increased their budget for household employees from $184,000 in 2006 to $273,000 in 2007, according to John McCain's tax returns.

This should be in the next Obama ad.

But don't you see? Elitism isn't how much money you have, it's how you FEEL (about voting Democrat). And billionaires can be poor too! And if you budget a quarter million dollars a year for servants, that's completely the same as worrying about how you're going to pay all of your bills and still make rent/mortage! And being enthusiastic for a candidate is really terrible!

Etchy333 [TotalFark] 2008-08-22 03:25:57 PM

Only fake rich people pay their staffs minimum wage. They probably live a pretty comfortable life. A lot of those properties McCain owns don't have any staff in them.

I think its very generous of John McCain to pay servants $273,000 of the $405,409 he made in 2007. he only keeps $132,000 for himself. he's basically middle class.

hubiestubert [TotalFark] 2008-08-22 03:27:40 PM
I'm just glad that he can afford to support so many hard working American families. That shows that he is indeed a man of the people, by employing them to do his housework and keep his lawns clean and clear. Truly, he is an American success story.

Maybe not quite the same road as a black kid from a single parent home, growing up in Chicago and eventually going to Harvard and becoming a Constitutional scholar, but he's certainly living the American dream to dump his first wife for a younger, hotter, richer model. Whooo hooo!

If it takes $5million/year to make a person rich, I think this classifies John McCain as poverty-stricken.

Poor guy.

McCain didn't have time to learn your "new math" while he was a POW for 5 /12 years.

Plus, as McCain has said on economic issues before, it's more a state of mind than a mathematical fact.
