What say you?

Everyone of these self possessed, pampered, over-hyped so called musicians (of which Metallica is only one example) should be forced to sit through the entire "This is Spinal Tap" movie with someone sitting beside them saying "yup... that's just how you look" at all of the appropriate moments.

I remember watching an interview with Keith Richards who was lounging in a luxury, 5 star hotel room, having been chauffered there in a luxurious stretch limo from his luxurious private jet, whinning about how much of a "drag" touring is.

Pinheads.

Huh, that's a tough one. Probably Metallica. I download every Metallica and Megadeth song I can, and sadly I think that only amounts to like one Megadeth song.

You'd have to be a delusional egomaniac to get on stage and play the kind of vomitous noise they've been cranking out since Day One.

Yeah, I said it. Metallica sucks and always has.

As do I, except for St. Anger. I couldn't tolerate it. The new single is not bad.

...And Justice for All is still my favorite album.

Peace sells is probably the only Megadeth Album I enjoy. But I love it to death.

If "egomaniacs" means "pussies", then yeah, he's right.

I understand that they had families to consider, but James should never have gotten off the booze. He also never should have let the rest of the band in on the writing process.

You can tell that he is just so miserable handing over the reins to them in that movie.

The bottom line is: if you want to rock, don't pick up a wife and kids until you are ready to stop.

Sorry, but I choose "...and Justice for All" as my favorite album, but "Trapped Under Ice" is my favorite song.

Does the stuff that Mustaine wrote for Metallica count for Metallica, Megadeth, or for neither band?

"Some Kind Of Monster" was unintentionally hilarious. Hetfield driving to the studio looking like a tough biker and then acting like a big baby when he got there.

Lars: "You're a big, freakin' baby, plus you can't sing worth squat. Go set yourself on fire again."
James: "You hurt my feelings and you have a Napoleon complex. I quit."
Kirk: "I'm going surfing."
Bob Rock: "Let's get some beers and go see the shrink."

AJFA is also my fave.. and its been said that James is taking over songwriting again, so hopefully that works out for them.

As far as them being egomaniacs, every enormously successful band is full of egomaniacs. it takes that kind of mental state to actually become that successful. if you dont think you're the best you're never going to get there in the modern music environment

Stranglehold 2008-08-22 12:17:08 PM
You would have figured that they were egomaniacs when their bass player told them to fark off before he walked out on them.

Indeed. And Justice for All > Ride the Lightning.

I'm glad that they made the documentary, if only to be a warning to other bands on how NOT to conduct their business.

You're writing an album and recording songs and you don't even THINK about hiring a bassist until you've finished the farking album? That's what shocked me the most.

Oh, and the douchebag psychiatrist that just wouldn't leave.

Metallica ceased to be "metal" decades before SKOM, but that was just pathetic.

rickycal78 2008-08-22 12:47:58 PM
I've always liked Metallica, musically at least until St. Anger. I was able to dig the changes the music went through as they actually grew up and things weren't all about being pissed off all the time. Maybe its because I listen to a moderately broad range of music.

Now personality wise, these guys are asshats, although Kirk has always seemed pretty cool. Lars can DIAF, James needs to stop listening to his therapist and just freakin channel all the pissed off crap into the music instead of trying to talk things through with people.

/Ride the Lightning is still the best they ever did though

It is a drag. Why ride around with their equipment in a cube van? Goodness knows enough performers have experienced that, and it is, I can tell you, a drag. Things like limos and jets just make the drag aspect less draggy.

A fun game to play with the new single is fast forward to the 4 minute mark and try to figure out how many of their own songs they rip off in the last 4 minutes.
