Keep piling on McCain. It is the only way to make sure his charge of Obama being out of touch comes back to bite him in the ass.

Doesn't know how many homes he owns.

Thinks the $5 million dollars would be the starting point to being rich.

Tells Union workers that they couldn't pick lettuce for $50 an hour after asking them if they would.

And what percentage have government and banker leans on them? Mortgages, HELs, Property Tax Abatements, etc.

None of them have "leans." However, I'm pretty sure at least 75% of those houses have "liens" on them.

It makes a world of difference. If there is a lien of any kind on your home, then you do not actually own it... you have some equity in it and may own it in about 10-30 years.

That is not true. You own it, you are just using it as security against payment of a loan against it.

75% of Americans own their own homes.

According to a 2001 study by the Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), "nearly 40 percent of all residential properties in the United States, owner-occupied and rental units, are not mortgaged but are owned free and clear.

Source

Considering that was 2001, and this is 2008, being the year with the most foreclosures on homes in nearly 60 years, I kind of think you're wrong.

A home is not owned until it has been paid off.

I am not wrong, and that is not true. You do not understand how a mortgage works. The bank does not "own" the house, unless they foreclose. That is the whole point of foreclosure.

EatHam is correct. The lien on the home by the mortgage company simply means that before the house can be transferred to a different owner, the lien must be lifted - by paying off the loan.

The deed is in the name of the homeowner, which is the legal title to the property. The deed isn't in the name of the bank. The homeowner is the actual owner, even if its mortgaged to the hilt.

Give me a break guys, that is semantics at best. Owning something means you do not have to continue to pay for it, otherwise they come and take it from you. The loan, while it is a means of securing the house for your eventual ownership, is basically the biggest version of "Rent to Own"

Who cares about deeds and liens and mortgages? If they can come take it from you and not call it stealing, then you do not own it.

No, it does not mean that at all. Also, they can not come take it from me and not call it stealing. I am protected by the full force of the law, as long as I do not violate my contract. By your definition, there is no privately owned property anywhere, nor has there ever been.

Individual vs. bank ownership completely misses the point. As the great philospher VanDross exclaimed...

"A chair is still a chair - even when no one's sitting there.
But a chair is not a house - and a house is not a home - when there's no one there to hold you tight.
And no one there you can kiss goodnigggggggggght."

You brag of cardboard boxes and sheets of tarpaulin, when we would sacrifice a weaker sibling for such luxuries. We lived in a bus stop in the ghetto, but could only afford the uncovered, benchless, back side.

I'm thinking he didn't want to answer the question because he and Cindy have separate ownerships considering his and her wealth. So I can see why he would want to get back to the reporter...not being sure which ones are his, which ones are hers, and which ones are theirs. I seriously doubt he's done much more than sign his tax papers in the past few years.

I don't 'own' my home. In 20 years when I'm finished paying the mortgage, then I'll own it.

Actually you are wrong. Arizona is a community property state. While McCain might not be able to touch any of Cindy's asset that she had before the prenup was signed, every item she has purchased since the marriage is half his.
