Unless they taunted him with sips of French Coffee with that sweetened condensed milk...that would be even crueler.

This. I hear Obama gets all farty and bloaty with a foamy latte.

Drinking Texas Pecan now...

I can see that, last time I went to get coffee for the office by myself, I ordered 12 large. The clerk barrista asks me "Is that for here or to go?"

Yeah, I am ordering 12 large coffees to sit down and drink by myself.

And arugula = elitist Harvard snob food whose price no decent American, especially not the farmers that grow it, should be concerned about.

Wait... Starbucks?

How can one point at Obama and call him an Elitist, then forget about the 7-10 properties they own yesterday, and today go to Starbuck in a 9 car motorcade and get a cappuccino?

/man, my country angers/confuses me

I get that when I go to Taco Cabana. I usually buy several burritos, eat one or two, then put the rest in the fridge for work-lunches. They always ask me, "for here or to go?" like I could possibly eat eight of those damn things in a sitting.

As much as I am enjoying the skewering of McCain's "Elitist/Celebrity" attacks on Obama, this really is sad.

Substantive, issues-based arguments just don't move the electorate.

It's this ticky-tacky gotcha so-called 'character' stuff that really seems to make the difference.

What a crappy set of affairs.

John McCain eats iceberg lettuce picked by Mexican labor because Americans are so lazy they wouldn't pick lettuce for $50 an hour.

Iceberg = lettuce of the common man.

I ordered TWO one day in a fit of java passion and the waitress said "I hope you don't plan on sleeping for a few days."

She was right. I was ready to audition to be the "Buzzy the Hummingbird" cereal mascot. They had to read my blood pressure in Kelvin.

cameroncrazy1984: Is it me or is McCain just having about the worst 48 hours a campaign could have.

It's you.

For any mishaps that McCain (or more particularly, his idiot campaign manager) has had in the last couple days, the mainstream media has not picked up on the 'house gaffe' and has in many places excused it (really, his wife owns all of the houses...big deal, yadda yadda).

There's just too much other stuff going on that the news is covering: Obama veepstakes, Democratic Convention coverage beginning, McCain's office receiving threatening packages in the mail, the draft timetable agreement in Iraq, the Olympics, Georgia/Russia conflict is finally settling in with most people, Musharraf.

Plus, the MSM is still largely discussing the newest poll numbers (Zogby showing McCain actually leading by 5 pts, others showing a large gap now closing) and McCain performance at Saddleback.

Every dime you spend there goes toward the eventual destruction of the American way of life.

Well done.

Now, what I don't understand is why he couldn't send an underling to go get him a cappuccino. The fact that he seems to have no common sense worries me, given how many people look for the guy with the word Republican next to the name on the ballot.

As stupid as I find all of this to be, I'd honestly love to have a report that he was sighted eating arugula. I mean, if these are the issues we're debating, let's have some fun with it!

I'm curious as to where he stands on butter leaf, red leaf, and simple field greens. Does he pull the one that looks like a weed and doesn't taste much better out of his salad or leave it in?

And then there's the dressing issue -- what kind? Served on the side? Do either of them pour it on, or are they dippers?

Finally, croûtons. For or against?

We need to know.

You know, that's the only reason this story is relevant at all, all joking aside. Who in their right mind assembles a 9-car motorcade to get a cup of coffee? Even if he just wanted to get out and get it himself [sort of a "I'm still a normal person" thing], wouldn't one accompanying car be enough?

The excess, as well as the "look at me!" parts of this are sort of disconcerting and makes me think the people who call him Bush 2.0 are actually underestimating just how bad he would really be if he got into office.

It's his Secret Service entourage. McCain's car, a few big black SUVs, a couple of sedans, and probably a local cop or two.

I spend a lot of time in DC. The President's motorcade is 5 times as big.

I just caught this FTFA:

McCain and his wealthy wife, Cindy, have four homes

See? It's not McCain who is wealthy, it's his wife! They're totally not sharing it or anything. McCain only gets his $165,000 a year from the Senate and his Social Security. He's just like you!
