One thing I find funny about Amy Whinehouse, is, I had never heard of her, until her one song. "don't wanna go to rehab" or whatever it is. Then I saw her. I don't want to say it was Ironic, but I was laughing for a solid half an hour, and weeping for the people who are in charge of looking after her well being. It's clinical jargon. In the US the mental health community refers to this condition as "self-injurous." It's just a very descriptive way of getting across what's wrong with someone when you have to write it on a beaurocratic form.

There's a long list of guitar players who pushed the technical and musical limits of the instrument much further than Hendrix did. He was an innovator, but not a great guitarist. He wasn't even the best guitarist at Woodstock. Alvin Lee was.

But, well, pop-culture has told you what a great guitarist Hendrix was, you've heard it from all your little friends since grade school, and he looks cool on t-shirts and posters.

He wasn't that great.

Hendrix was a much better guitarist than SRV, but more importantly, he was an infinitely better songwriter. There is some truth to the whole marketing thing, but Hendrix was great at writing guitar parts that support good vocal melodies, while also showcasing his brilliant lead guitar work. He was also the fist guitarist *as far as I know* to fuse lead guitar and rhythm guitar into one, implying chords rather than strumming them. Just my two cents.
