I love the smell of anti-intellectualism in the morning. Nothing like the denigration of intelligence, education, and competence to get the blood flowing.

Sorry NRO, but the nation has had eight years of stupidity, ignorance, and incompetence. You all may have liked it that way, but most everybody else is farking tired of it. And the they will soon realize that McCain's is just another four years of Bush policy hiding behind the "___noun___ ___verb___ Prisoner of War" meme, and they aren't going to like it.

Obama is up seven in MI with a lead of 80 to 13 among Detroit voters.

I guess people in Detroit aren't American people.

Given NRO devotees, Bush must seem like a Philosopher King.

cameroncrazy1984: I know I always turn to NRO for how Democrats are feeling. They've always got their finger on the pulse.

Sadly, they do have a pulse on what many idiot Republicans are thinking. There are days I weep for my party. If for no other reasons that the loudest monkeys are like a parody of the party.

That the NRO tends towards a Fun House mirror of the party doesn't help, but the Rah Rah Boyz who tend think that politics is a "winnable" endeavor eat it up, because it gives them a handy guide to what they ought to be thinking.

I dislike the mass Groupthink aspect that has afflicted both parties--as opposed to actual pauses to consider. Democrats and Republicans both get into the dog pile aspect, and rather than come up with opinions based on facts, they tend to run with what the spin is of the moment.

To quote William F. Buckley, "I should sooner live in a society governed by the first two thousand names in the Boston telephone directory than in a society governed by the two thousand faculty members of Harvard University."

I think I would too.

THIS

I love how there's always a "new" poll of "the american people" to show who is X amount of points ahead. Typically, there's a selection of 1 to 5 thousand people "randomly" selected. Not exactly a real control group to base assumptions on if you ask me.

I conducted a poll this morning that shows that 2 out of 3 male Republicans want to gargle my sperm.

Stock up on meds, join a comfort group, because this time, it's really gonna hurt. This time, even the few who still call themselves Republicans think their candidate is a pud. But it's not about McCain, and that's why he will win.

I know they were both ahead in mid to late August but I'm not sure about how that coincides with the parties conventions. IIRC Kerry was ahead after the RNC but I'm not sure.

Jonah Goldberg attempts with every ounce of his being to portray himself as a gentleman scholar This guy wants nothing more than to be a member of the elite intelligentsia, so its not surprising he's lashing out in jealousy at somebody who people actually consider an intellectual heavyweight.

look, it couldn't be any clearer. Republicans are openly calling for a platform of stupidity.

Americans don't want an elitist President, especially one who doesn't know how many houses he owns and thinks people who make $4 million dollars are middle class.

Magorn 2008-08-22 02:15:46 PM
Yeah, you're right, why would we want a product of our finest schools to lead us? Why Would we want someone who is actually capable of critical and rational thought to lead our nation?

nahh just give us a faux rugged manly man who's "jest folks" who reminds of old Wilbur who hangs out at the fllin' station (forgetting ouf course we wouldn't loan Ol' wilbur so much as a screwdriver for fear he'd hurt himself, bless his heart)

or as Menken immortally put it:

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.
"
- H.L. Menken, Baltimore Evening Sun, 26 July 1920

Which of course, explains president Bush

You and your kind are through, Goldberg. You had your moment in the sun for nearly a decade and you couldn't have farked it up any more if you tried. Once the story that McCain is STILL receiving money from one of the convicted felons involved in both the Keating Five and Colombian Death Squad Support scandals, all this other crap won't matter.

Carl Lindner hosted a $25,000-a-plate fundraiser for MCCain in July of this year. His company pled guilty to funding a terrorist group in Colombia, and he was convicted of financing death squads there.

Carl Lindner, an Ohio billionaire with CIA and underworld connections who owned Chiquita Bananas, was Charles Keating's original partner, banker, and mentor. Lindner got Keating wrapped up with schemes involving the usual cast of BCCI characters, shady Saudi bankers, the Bush family, and Iran-Contra money laundering. Keating was always a sort of pass-through guy, without any real money of his own. But, a lot of money flowed through Keating to McCain and his wife, Cindy, in an Arizona real estate scam. Lindner who was recently convicted of financing Right-wing death squads in Colombia, is still giving big, dirty campaign checks to McCain. Now, that's a story that the American people need to hear.

Have you noticed had hard the Right is hitting the "Intelligence=BAD!" button these days?

Like Mcain's Spokesman the other day after notting obama lived in "a fricking Mansion" (as if all of McCain's places were hovels and log cabins) then went out of his way to also slam Obama as a "an arugula-eating, pointy headed professor-type" (new window)

I half expected him to add "Plus, he talks like a fag, and his shiat's all retarded"
