That one where they just jam for like 20 minutes. Me and my frat bros would listen to that while we played beer pong.

Ants Marching is a really good tune. I know that DMB is not popular on here...I mostly like what there music makes me think of (times in my life) than the music itself. For example, "Too Much" came out when I turned 21. Great memories of the time period...

I actually really like "The Dreaming Tree." I'm not sure if it featured LeRoi, but it's easily my favorite DMB song.

I liked him quite a bit. It's too bad DMB is so shiatty.

one of my roommates in college didn't use an alarm clock. instead he had a scheduled task on his computer that would go off at 7am and start playing a random DMB song. loud.

Quel [TotalFark] 2008-08-19 11:19:52 PM
Eh, DMB was always cool until they got popular enough that it got cool to not like them (okay, or about 2001 when they released that craptastic album Everyday and their other craptastic albums after that).

Anyways, I always liked their stuff when they featured the sax/flute/strings, so I liked LeRoi. But oh well.

Mayer? Well, he banged Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston, is funny as hell, and actually has music that is listenable

I say, for a top 40 guy, he passes

I've been to so many concerts. This was in the top 5 shiattiest. My buddy and his girlfriend at the time had an extra ticket so I said it cant be that bad of a show. Wrong

I do have to say the guy on the electric violin type thing was actually pretty good when he did a solo.

Dragynwing [TotalFark] 2008-08-19 11:21:08 PM
"Say Goodnight," the track right before "Crash." it's got a very free feeling to it. i rarely listen to music for lyrics. i love the sound.

McFifestien 2008-08-19 11:22:18 PM
I like playing some of the old dave matthews riffs on my guitar. But I just can't listen to him anymore, especially his newer stuff.

Tripping Billies, while being an annoying song overall, is fun to play on the guitar

the only album i bothered with. it was more like listening to one long song with a bunch of sections than individual songs on an album. i just so happened to love the really long song.

He's really more blues-y than top 40 nowadays.

As I said in the greenlit thread, I haven't listened to DMB's more recent material.

I really enjoyed Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash, though. If I had to make a choice, I'd say that Moore's best work was on "#34" from Dreaming. Great endnote to that album.

Sad news about his passing, to be sure.

Yep. A true musician, stuck in the world of pop. Very sad.

I'll say What Would You Say, since that's the song I remember that really put them on the mainstream map.

I have Crash and Under the Table, and I still listen to them both from time to time.

DMB is fairly popular around where I live, but it helps that I live within walking distance of the bar he got started at.

Yes, you're insanely cool and trendy for hating on a band that many other people like.

What a unique way to announce to the world that you're cool. And by "unique" I mean, "utterly common and completely predictable."

For the record, nobody asked you to listen to DMB. But now you can sit around and wait for the white knights to show up and come to your defense.

/rant off

i'm sorry. i was just in here hoping to be able to use a line like "I enjoy listening to Dave Matthews Band like I enjoy drinking bleach". I did say it was sad that the guy died, it's not my fault I find their music unlistenable. and you can't make a TFD without knowing there will be haterade flowing like it's the nectar of the gods - this one going green was mere happenstance.

If you want, you can make a Billy Joel thread and mock him to your heart's content, and I will defend him to the bitter, snarky end.

I would never do that. I love Billy Joel to a ridiculous degree.

For the record, DMB has sucked since Everyday, and I haven't been to a Dave show in 7 years. Still, Remember Two Things, Under the Table... and Crash were basically the soundtrack to my life for several years.

Always liked "One Sweet World" and "#41" live.

we can be friends, then, don't you see?

I actually won free tickets to DMB last year from Matty in the Morning on Kiss108, and when he told me what show they were for, I had a hard time disguising the disappointment in my voice I guess, because apparently he spent 10 minutes after they transferred me to the girl taking my info talking about how he wasn't going to give away tickets anymore if people weren't going to get excited.

I'd been hoping for Maroon 5 with Sara Bareilles because I adore her, and so it seems that came through in my reply.

One of my friends from work came down to my department and was like... Hey, you didn't by any chance win tickets this morning? She heard the whole thing, and I found out months later my aunt and cousins in freakin NH had been listening too.

/end randomly long DMB story.
//oh, i sold the tix at face value to someone who really wanted to go, so i felt good about that.

The relief is washing over me.

And good for you for finding someone who wanted the DMB tix. Nothing worse than being at a concert you don't want to be at. The crowds there have a pretty high douche factor, I have to admit.

Who the hell would mock Billy Joel anyway?

i know, i know. you must have been really having a rough few minutes there wondering if it'd be okay.

yeah, even for free i felt no desire to go listen to him, and there are so many people out there that are die hard fans, it was the obvious choice.

some people mock Billy Joel hard, and it hurts my soul, and i cry a little inside.

It would have to be this clip of "When the World Ends" (pops) from Alpine Valley in 2003.

Oh, DMB = Dave Mathews Band. I didn't know that they had achieved acronym status. Too bad about LeRoi, he was very talented.

I liked "When the World Ends," too. That music is all about memories for me. Me and probably everyone on the planet with every scrap of music ever written. But I really liked that one.

hockeyfarker [TotalFark] 2008-08-20 01:15:45 AM
As others have said, Dave Matthews was good until Everyday. Then they started playing his stuff on the radio and people were all "I hate DMB", which is fine, but they judge people who liked the band when they were good.

They were a really good band when there was more instrumental stuff going on, when the sax and violin and drums were really cool. Then it became more about DAVE MATTHEWS and it started to suck.

I am right about this, I'm telling y'all. TMLO, I agree with you on Dreaming, that was a great disc.
