This is news to anyone born in the '90s. I wasn't born then, so this is the most old-hat article I've ever read.

Also, this line kind of pissed me off:
She didn't always read comics though - she was very literate.
Apparently you must go 'full-retard' to read comics.
Tsk, tsk.

remember the old hippies who used to say that MOrrison, Joplin and hendrix all died within the same period as part of an FBI conspiracy to kill off the hippy movement?

Yeah, they did ALL the good acid

The other day a homeless guy stopped me in the park. He asked what my job was. I told him that I'm a history teacher. He proceeded to quiz me on various historical facts, fishing for a dollar. One of the questions was "How old was Custer when he had his last stand?" I remembered the rule of 33/27: many famous people did big things when they were 33, and many rock stars died at 27.

33: Jesus died, Jefferson wrote the Declaration, Alexander conquered the Mediterranean, etc.
27: See TFA

/I gave him the dollar anyhow.

EZ1923: I remembered the rule of 33/27

I have always wondered why the toughest years for me were 27 and 33.

I was destined for greatness and missed it somehow.

I won a dead pool because of this. I picked 6 months after Kurt's 27th birthday, playing the odds. Spent my winnings on a GnR CD.

No need to be depressed, those people were ridiculously talented and tragically died at 27. You'll probably see 90.

On the bright side, there may just possibly be another (1 to 4) GnR CD(s) coming out soon.

Of far more relevance is the list of musicians whose career died at 27, yet they lived on to just become pathetic shadows of their former greatness:

Elvis
Michael Jackson
Madonna
Brian Wilson
David Crosby
Etc...

"Bad" was released when Jackson was 29. 32 Million copies sold worldwide, the only album in history to have 5 #1 singles.

Madonna had only released two (of eleven) albums by age 27, "Madonna" and "Like a Virgin."

I don't know if you can include artists who were part of a much bigger group early in life and then went solo. I agree about the Elvis part. He was pretty much done by '62.

Yeah, not only is this old news, but they were all also overrated...burn me if you want, even though I do like most of them.

Now Arthur Lee! HE was an songwriter! And a pretty good singer. I didn't realize this until two years ago just after he died, though. I would've loved to see him live in concert. "You Set the Scene" and "Alone Again Or" are my two favorites, although I think the latter song is actually written by his Love bandmate Bryan Mclean, who died ten years ago (and was a good musician as well)Arthur Lee.

Ok, I`ll probably get flamed for this, but this is how the whole 27 thing was explained to me - by a smokin hot hippy chick at Big Bad John`s in Victoria BC one amazing drunken night back in the 90s

When we turn 27 Saturn returns to the point where it was at the time of our birth (shut up). This apparently means drastic change in one`s life. Don`t ask me why, I`m not an astrologer. For most of us it means we`ll change direction in our lives (for me it meant I crossed the hall to change jobs. I know that gave you chills ) but it means that change means death for some people.

Anyway, that`s my drunken understanding of it.

/misses Big Bad Johns
//misses Victoria almost as much
///loves hippy chicks
////not as much as slashies

Please review Mr. Brownstone again, identify the phase that Axl's life has currently entered and reconsider your suggestion that he will produce anything more musical than a fart.

If you wanna feel really bad about yourself, Buddy Holly died at 22. And his impact on the music industry has lasted nigh on 5 decades now.

I think your reading comp may need a little tuning up.

This guy is saying she read comics AND she's literate ... therefore, he's acknowledging that some comics readers aren't full retard.

What he's probably implying is that if all you read are comics, maybe you are illiterate. Don't try to see things that aren't there.

FTA: Ron McKernan, the alcoholic Grateful Dead bassist.

They remembered, they just put the wrong instrument in his cold dead hands.
