I had a dream that I was 300 pounds
And though I was very heavy I floated til I couldn't see the ground
like an angel over my head.

Is that so hard to believe? Do none of you have faith in angles?

I have faith in 90 degree angles mostly... anything smaller than 90 degrees makes me uncomfortable.

I disagree. I find angles of less than 90 degrees to be 'cute.

Brian Wilson is so brain damaged I'm surprised he doesn't think he's still writing songs with Charlie Manson while magic candy-colored angels and pixies float about his head.

mental health issues are like a mouth full of sores. and feeling holy, little darling, is like a mouth without sores. take from me, a guy who's got mouth sores.

FTFA: "The drugs I took which kind of messed up my mind. The LSD, the marijuana, the cocaine," he says, to audience laughter.

WTF? "audience laughter"?

Glitchwerks: Brian Wilson is so brain damaged I'm surprised he doesn't think he's still writing songs with Charlie Manson

He *would* have to be on serious drugs to think that, since it was Dennis who knew and hung out with Manson. By the time that happened, Brian was already "gone".

Saw him do SMiLE at Walt Disney Concert Hall, it was amazing; killer band and he still has that voice, though not the very top notes (obviously).

Scalene the heights of humor with these jokes, we are.

Funny thing about Brian, though... I watched the "Smile" DVD and was very pleasantly surprised to find him in very good voice. It had been a very long time since I had heard him sing so well, and of course his band was remarkable. But the really interesting thing to me was found in watching the two documentaries that accompanied the actual performance. In the one doc showing the lead-up to the first concert in London, Brian is shown almost catatonic at times as the musicians are assembled at his house to work out vocal parts -- indeed, he even had to be taken to the hospital one night, so great was his anxiety. On the other briefer one that centers on the recording of the new version, however, he seems to be completely in his element working in the studio. He's upbeat, acutely aware of every little detail, and very much in charge. It was a very fascinating contrast to observe.

Yeah, I was thinking that was a rather uncharitable comment to make, too, especially in light of its lack of factual basis.

Saw him do SMiLE at Walt Disney Concert Hall, it was amazing; killer band and he still has that voice, though not the very top notes (obviously).

That was what I got from the concert DVD, too. On almost everything I'd heard for quite a long time, it pained me to hear his voice in such poor shape. So it made me very happy to hear him showing himself so much better.

Anything bigger or smaller than 90 degrees just isn't right.

Is the new record good? Anyone heard it?

/I heard about on the TV.

I downloaded a bootleg of a live performance of it not long ago. It's not bad. It's not anywhere near as good as Smile though.

He's a regular at a diner I go to once in a while. Even just having lunch he's kinda weird, but he's a fully functioning human being. But I'm a big fan of his music for sure.

This record is very, very, underrated.

/To me it sound like a return to the orchestration of "Pet Sounds" except he played it all on synths.
//The layers of parts on that record still blow me away.

I find 180 degree angles to be straight.

I've heard demos of all the songs.
It's a good record...his best solo work apart from SMiLE.
It's worth the price of admission just for "Midnight's Another Day"--one of the most beautiful songs he's EVER written. No lie.

Ok, on 2nd listen of this new record.

//Very, very good
//Narratives are kick ass and funny
///very, very, very good
////Brian's voice is really really really really really really good on this
////I'm drunk

If you like that record (I love it), you'll like "Oxygen to the Brain" off the new one.

When I see Brian Wilson & hear him talk, I always think of Carl Spackler.

"I smell varmint poontang, and the only good varmint poontang is dead varmint poontang, I think."

yes! i enjoy oca very much. i've also seen brian live several times the past few years. i've heard him perform fantastic versions of smile and pet sounds live. brian with his new band is 100% better than mike love's beach boy woo woo machine.

For anyone who's interested the entire "That Lucky Old Sun" album is streaming here. (new window)

I thought the demos were pretty good, but the finished version just blows them away.
