Since when did Oasis do anything that wasn't a rip-off heavily influenced by the Beatles?

the opening shots were a ripoff of the rolling stones "hot rocks" compilation cover. so there: they were ripping off the stones, not the beatles!

A little Power Pop turn. Less melody, more guitar. Not bad.

OK, OK, we get it, you guys want to be the Beatles.

Not half-good either. Very noisy.

They're in neutral and coasting.

Same as the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Aerosmith still wins the prize for coasting, though. They haven't come up with an original song since "Dream On".

But in this day of shiat music this sounds fresh, its really a commentary of the state of music today.

Trite.

Love is a time machine?

Come on, they've obviously expanded as musicians:

They've added ripping off The Who to their usual repertory of
ripping off the Beatles (specifically some riffs from SQUEEZBOX).

I will admit, though, that if I didn't know it was Oasis, I might
think it was catchy.

meade2001 2008-08-18 01:48:48 PM
really? bashing Oasis for being Beatles-influenced? Did I just go back 13 years in a time machine?

Get over it.

/what post-Beatles band isn't trying to be the Beatles?

This, a millions times this.

If only they'd play stuff like this on the radio more often, instead of shiat like, oh, 50 cent, the Pussycat Dolls, and Black Eyed Peas.

At least this Oasis is good derivative crap, as opposed to hot steamy, stinky, shiatty crap I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies, such as all that other shiat on the radio I don't even know what it is but makes me wanna puke when I hit 'scan' on the radio in my car.

Oasis > a lot of stuff

At least it's not I-V-iv-IV.

Any musicians forced to listen to modern top 40 songs will know what I mean.

Oasis has a bunch of solid songs.

Catchy tunes, nice melodies, simple, but not exceedingly trite lyrics.

Are they ripping off of the Beatles because they're British and they write pop songs? (Not to mention the Beatles catalog is rife with very simplistic pop songs)

There's a whole lot worse out there than Oasis. Douchieness aside.

I wouldn't look too closely at Oasis lyrics if I were you, they have some real head-scratchers

Looks like the youtube links are vanishing, but it's still up for those who'd like to see it on This Non-Youtube Link (new window)

Obligatory you're looking for music in the wrong places because there's loads of good stuff coming out these days post.

It's amusing to see that in the perhaps the first actual MUSIC-related Oasis post in what seems like a long time, the majority of comments are actually of the 'hey, this ain't bad' variety.

rpl 2008-08-19 10:45:14 AM
Didn't I already hear this song over a decade ago?
Oh wait, nevermind, the drummer uses a different beat pattern this time. This is indeed a new song.
