Leto hasn't been the same since the move to Arrakis.

Yeah, this pretty goes in line with what I have been hearing from people close to the 30 Seconds camp - the label is trying to screw the band over.

TFA: If you think the fact that we have sold in excess of 2 million records and have never been paid a penny is pretty unbelievable, well, so do we. And the fact that EMI informed us that not only aren't they going to pay us AT ALL but that we are still 1.4 million dollars in debt to them is even crazier. That the next record we make will be used to pay off that old supposed debt just makes you start wondering what is going on. Shouldn't a record company be able to turn a profit from selling that many records? Or, at the very least, break even? We think so.

farking record labels.

Jared Leto is a douchebag of the highest caliber. I only feel bad for the rest of his band.

regardless of what you or i think of their music, i still call shenanigans on the label.

this is just par for the course.

Better than the expected "Who did what now?" response. And what pxlboy said... this law specifically addresses the crucial moment found in so many episodes of "Behind the Music" when the artist gets it in the ass from the label.

Would it make you feel better if this was written by Logan Mader about Machine Head and Roadrunner?

seriously. for those of you who remember Gravity Kills; something similar happened to them.

they went out on tour for their last album, were promised tour support, and got stuck with the bill when they got back. had to sell the studio and all that. what a clusterf*ck.

no wonder more and more musicians are independently publishing. it might not be as cool as the rock star tour, but you don't get f*cked in the end by a label.

I remember Gravity Kills, and yes I had heard about that too. It's a shame.

Bands are eager to be "rock stars" and sign idiotic contracts meant to enslave them for the rest of their lives....film at 11

februarymakeup [TotalFark] 2008-08-18 04:59:41 PM
So...wait. A group of humans, entered a situation, knowing full well that nearly every single other person that had done so had emerged much the worse for it?

And now, we're supposed to side with the people who signed that contract?

Hey everybody! Major labels? They're going to screw you. Even if you are in movies. They're going to screw you.

Every. Single. Time.

So, seriously? It's 2008. I have no sympathy for any of these people. They went into it with their eyes open.

The record company treated Leto like Edward Norton did in Fight Club. I hate to side with a record label, but it's Jared Leto. I hope he goes MC Hammer broke, but without the opportunity for ironic cash-ins a decade later.

I've watched Fight Club at least 100 times and I never knew who this guy was. It wasn't until I saw him in American Psycho that I actually liked him... enough... to watch him die... on screen... to Huey Lewis.

My Zune came pre-programmed with a video for some lame slice of suck from 30 Seconds to Mars.

Fark Jared Leto and his faux-emo eye-liner wearing bullshiat-that-is-not-music.

You sign a recording contract so that the label can get you radio airplay and promote you. Then you make your money from merchandise, publishing, and shows. If you get ANY money from the label, you should consider it a bonus.

But if the label tries to keep you bound to an illegal contract, sues you for it, and then makes it public, you explain it to your fans so they don't hate you.

I think they did a fine job of explaining what's going on without making themselves look retarded.

Gravity Kills..one of those amazing bands of the Filter/Stabbing Westward/God Lives Underwater era that never really recieved as much attention as it should have other than some soundtracks here and there. That section of Industrial Metal fizzled out around the time 30 Seconds and Linkin Park made it into the spotlight...

God Lived Underwater's got some cool stuff. It's a nice appetizer to some 90's-era NIN as the main course, followed with a comedown with Sister Machine Gun or some Stabbing Westward.

/Sister Machine Gun's got a lot of cool shiat, but theres some iffy stuff out there too...nonetheless theres over 9 hours of thier music out there, you can easily find something you'd like via your favorite methods of obtaining muzak.
