Hell of a resume, that's for sure.

Interesting side note to this article is seeing that Bill Lloyd has picked up the curator job at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Nice gig!

Mr. Helms also provided the bouncy twang to such up-tempo songs as "Jambalaya" and "Hey, Good Lookin' " and the weeping notes on slow songs including "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry."

All stone cold classics. Jambalaya is one of my favorites. That steel guitar still sounds terrific.

Here he is playing a very nice instrumental version of Cold, Cold Heart. Great stuff.

I'm assuming this is Don playing with Hank on "Hey Good Lookin'." Bonus: June Carter cutting up on the introduction.

Couple more with Hank on this one: "Cold, Cold Heart" (again. got a problem with that? didn't think so.) and a lovely duet with Anita Carter on "I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You."

I was a pedal steel guitar major when I got my commercial music degree. Unfortunately for everyone in the world, I'm one up on the "Greatest living steel players" list.

We've also recently lost John Hughey of Conway Twitty and Vince Gill fame.

Goodnight, Honkyman.

What a distictive sound. I had read before that Rose had the records open with the steel guitar so the drunks at the honeytonks would immediately recognize what was coming on the juke box. Artists used to get paid based on the number of plays. Goodnight, sweet twanger.
