Appleton?

Man, someone needs to get one of those "Ani Tapuach" stickers from Israel and put it up there, just for the lulz.

copycats.

Years ago some of us savage trippers got hold of a price tag gun and marked down everything in Rochester NY.

Are the "PAY ATTENTION" stencils still there? I haven't been back there in over a dozen years.

No imagination.

I'd be stickering homeless people, cop cars, the Mayor, things like that. You know, challenging stuff.

Glad to see another Lawrentian on Fark.

And yeah, this sounds like something that a not-thinking art student (or just one of the many "edgy" students at LU) would do.

yes, they are. sadly, the incredibly high crime rate is too. But the Armory is the best venue i have ever been to, so i think it balaces out.

To be fair, it's not a very big school. I was unaware that it existed until recently, and I've lived here for over a decade. It is apparently a "womyn's studies" institution, or some such.

Where were the stencils at? I haven't been too far around downtown (I go to RIT), but I haven't seen any in my adventures.

Yeah but 99% of the women there aren't really much to study... But it's only a couple hours to Madison.

We all knew that the townies didn't even know they had a college campus down the road, but for the most part we liked it that way.

old idea-
there was an art movement in the late 60's called "fluxus" of which one of the principal ideas was that declairing any thing a work of art, was in it's self, a work of art;

from one of the dope threads:

cksewell Quote 2008-08-15 10:47:14 PM
Scruffinator: cksewell: Has anyone had the fantasy of saving every seed from every bag you've bought and just traveled the country tossing them everywhere? I mean....who hasn't dreamed of being Johnny Potseed?

I like this idea. Though you'd have to make sure you don't just toss them anywhere, but toss them in places where they wont be discovered so easily. Also, make sure you don't drop them in a trail leading up to your house. Although, that would make a great Fark story.

Oh nose...toss them everywhere...everywhere! Everyone do it. It would be so out of control the narcs wouldn't be able to stop the madness.

Fark story? Hells yeah. Fark Headline:America so overrun with marijuana the feds toss their hands up in defeat and grab a box of Ding Dongs.

Yeah that's my fantasy

How does it feel to be bested by little sarcastic stickers? Sounds like butthurt. Not quite Banksy "Caveman goes to market," but at least clever. Doesn't seem particularly harmful either.

A few years back there was a wave of small, round stickers appearing around Providence that said "mine". There was no news story about it though. Probably because every surface in Providence already has a sticker promoting a band or something.

Cyno01: Or these...

[things to put on real "STOP" signs]

In my town (and surely not only here) people did a cheap version of that, just got one of those huge chartpak letraset things and put the "W"s on the STOP signs.

I'll admit I did think it was witty... the first 132049103412985 times.

gosh darned RISD and brown kids. although, i saw one once stencil somewhere right across the river on the east side where someone had spraypainted 'lying' in the shadow of a stop sign. the shadow was spray painted black too.

or something.

The majority of Lawrence kids are pretty pretentious and these kids probably think they are actually being artistic with this mildly amusing.

If they get caught, mommy and daddy will pay for their fines anyways.

My girlfriend was born in Appleton, and I've been happily studying her for 8 years now. Her parents are from the great state of MN, so I guess her looks don't reflect upon the Appleton area. However, western WI has some fantastically beautiful women.

Just graduated from Lawrence. There are a lot of kids in the art program there that are really into "artists statements" which include a great deal of words per square thought, and apparently not so much into the actual artwork. My apartment building door was an art object worth 10,000.

I suspect this is the work of a student who recently had their artwork vandalized, because she left it in the middle of the frat quad with no indication that it was a student art project. The frat guys, thinking this was a thrift store tchotchke left out to mock them, messed with it a great deal.

When the art student raised a ruckus, a guy I know commented that they had no way of knowing that it was an art project, which infuriated this student. Shortly afterwards, the stickers started appearing.

""When you tear them off, they leave a sticky residue that is hard to clean," Shahin said.

"Many businesses along College Avenue have a circle of white residue after building owners tore stickers off their property."

Idiots indeed. "Tearing" them off. Peel 'em, soak 'em, WD40 'em, anything but tear 'em.
