(Daily Kos) Dumbass McCain responds to a 2% lead in Colorado by proposing legislation that would send more of Colorado's water to California. Guess how that turned out?   (dailykos.com) divider line 106

Kind of like telling Texas you're introducing legislation to send more of the Alamo to Mexico?

Can't Colorado just melt a glacier or something?

VictoryCabal [TotalFark] 2008-08-17 09:19:20 AM
There could be an upside. Maybe if Colorado gets less water, they'll stop shipping Coors Light to the rest of us.

GaryPDX [TotalFark] 2008-08-17 09:31:01 AM
California is already trying to tap our water for their sanctuary cities. Screw Mexifornia. They can drink desert sand.

And if they want natural gas, they can build their own farking terminal too instead of wanting us to build it and pipe it to them.

Hey, he was just trying to protect Arizona is all.

You know, like he wanted to ship toxic waste anywhere but AZ...

It's not that he's against nuclear power, just his own state taking any responsibility for really anything involving it.

McCain was thinking he was running for President of Arizona this whole time. Which explains his position on Georgia.....

Trap-Door Spider: So if McCain's idea is a bad one, what's the better plan for providing water to the lower states (including Mexifornia)?

Personally, I think it takes courage to propose something that hurts you politically, but that's just me. Has anyone suggested a better idea, because water problems can be serious. You can't just say screw 'em. Well, maybe to Mexifornia you can but I like Arizona.

/maybe somekind of gigantic pipeline from Canada or something?

Um, just a thought, but shouldn't we expect people to live where there's water? Kinda the way it's been since the beginning of man, and it's worked pretty well.

Trap-Door Spider: /maybe somekind of gigantic pipeline from Canada or something?

There's already separate legislation in place to cover the export of water from the Great Lakes, and it requires agreement from all states and provinces in contact with any of them. Bulk exports won't be happening from there unless a war kicks in.

Out west, there aren't any major separate bodies of water, and a lot of the prairie provinces are also as hard up for water as the western states. There's really not much water available to export.

VictoryCabal [TotalFark] 2008-08-17 10:53:11 AM
Those people wanted to go live in a desert, I say fark 'em. While they're thirsty and cowering in front of the air conditioner, I think I'll enjoy my warm summer day by sitting in a boat floating on a quarter of the world's fresh water.

North coast, represent.

It's a losing battle with all this global warming. That water will be needed in higher latitudes to grow food. The SW is turning into desert, it won't be able to support any more life than it's own water tables can support. Water will be HUGE in the coming years. Right now, T. Boone Pickens is trying to lock down huge regional water rights east of Colorado and the continental divide with his wind farms too. In the NW, we're very conscious of our water as well. California also wants to tap the mouth of the Columbia river for fresh water..we're like..FAT CHANCE buttheads.

They can only do that sucking the resources from the states around them. Let's see how they do using the resources they have.

1) You put up a some of power generating windmills
2) You use American workers to build one of these GE desalination plants which are made by an American company. Power with windmills.
3)........?
4) Profit.

I'm sure you can think of step 3. These are the types of investments we should be making as a country.

No..it's more like areas need to live with the resources they have, mostly. "Sharing" is fine, "expecting" to drain the resources of surrounding areas/states isn't. In 10 years there won't be enough water down there to go around. So..you want to get covered by desert?..fine..knock yourself out. OR, you could decide to live where life is sustainable. If you want to bring up NOLA, hey..they chose to live below sea level..go for it.

Actually, in terms of tax revenue, California is a donor state, meaning it gives more than it takes, helping to prop up gay-ass states such as Idaho.

But let's get back to the original point of the thread, which is that the McCain campaign is in self-destruct mode.

Diogenes:

This 'product' has excelled in everything he does. He goes to Harvard Law School, and not only does well in it, but becomes the President of the Harvard Law Review, essentially making him one of the most talented up-and-coming lawyer in the country. He gets out of Harvard, and goes to work for impoverished people rather than making millions in Manhattan. He gave the keynote speech at the Democratic Convention in 2004, while he was still a state senator, and even at that time, people were rallying him to become President.

Then when he does run for the party's nomination, he beats the most politically powerful machine in modern history. The 'youth' demographic were always considered useless, because they didn't vote, but he's been able to inspire those youths to come out and vote. He's received historical record donations amounts, with the vast majority of them coming from normal folks who donated less than $100.

This is a man with a lot of potential, and he seems to have made all the right choices so far (sure, there's been a few bumps in the road, like Wright)... especially considering he's a black man with a Muslim name, who grew up with no father and a mother who had to live on food stamps for a time.
