A bunch of farking hooligans try to overrun his house and beat him up...and he may have used "excessive force"? What a load of horseshiat. This guy should've started shooting the little shiats and it shouldn't be excessive force.

Now he may face police charges for using excessive force to drive the youths from his home last Saturday night.

Hornsby police were called to the incident and are understood to be considering whether the force Mr Driman used to protect his home was excessive.

Don't let the digger mentality give way to the nanny state mentality. This guy did what was right. Even if he is South African.

rancher 2008-08-17 07:06:36 AM
What slobarnuts said. Is Oz turning into a nanny state? I always thought there were a few more nads in you folks. They were beating on the guy and kicked his door in - HE used excessive force? Man up Ozzies and quickly.

The police are farking useless. The translation is "Wait for us before you do anything. We'll be late and we'll be idiots."

A score of big ass teenagers are pummeling one man, he uses a weapon to defend himself, the guests, his family, and property, nevermind a weapon which is hardly deadly with a few strikes, and he's the one being charged?

How about someone send these kids over to the police chief's home? And make sure his stereo and TV are prominently displayed.

Son of Thunder 2008-08-17 07:12:25 AM
As he got clear Mr Driman started using the sjambok - a 1.5metre plastic whip like the traditional rhino hide whips used by South African herdsmen.

I'd like to think I'd slaughter the bastards.

"I feared for my life, there were six of them, all armed. I hit them as hard as I could to make sure they couldn't get up again."

That, and maybe leave the last one alive and trussed up to accent my point.

Waiting for the police isn't an option (and I'm a police supporter, not a pig-hater). When you're being attacked now, an emergency call takes a minimum of several minutes to get a cop to your location. That's a long time to be swarmed by six violent punks.

Radworld4 2008-08-17 07:17:33 AM
They broke into his house.
Damaged his property.
"Make me" is strike three.

I hope by "considering charges" they mean buying him a round at the local pub.

Leonard of Quim 2008-08-17 07:19:20 AM
As a sjambok-owning South African I really got a kick out of that. And fark you slobarnuts.

Did they all run away, did he get them?

Seriously. That has to be the dumbest crap I've ever heard of. What about the attackers? Was jumping on the guy and pummeling him excessive force? Or was that ok?

Dreamless 2008-08-17 07:31:48 AM
When 1.5metre plastic whips like the traditional rhino hide whips used by South African herdsmen are outlawed, only outlaws will have 1.5metre plastic whips like the traditional rhino hide whips used by South African herdsmen.

at80eighty: christ on a pogo stick - 30 guys v/s one guy in his house & they're wondering if using a bleeding whip is excessive.

But it was a plastic whip. Those things can really sting.

germaniac 2008-08-17 07:40:25 AM
I see there are some misconceptions in certain parts of the world about what constitutes excessive force. Let me clear it up for you pussy-ass aussie dudes:

Skinning a home invader with a cheese grater, rubbing his raw flesh with salt, dousing him with gasoline, setting him on fire and then proceeding to anally rape him with a broken beer bottle - excessive force (in certain legislations).

Beating the ever-living crap out of a home invader - not excessive force.

blueviking 2008-08-17 07:40:39 AM
It's funny how the police are considering charges, but due to the fact that the attackers couldn't be identified....doesn't that mean that no one has come forward to admit to attacking the guy, much less wanting to file assault charges against him?

Hmmm, methinks you need a victim for an assault case.

A sjambok isn't like Indy's whip. It's more like a flexible stick. You can fark someone up with one of those things.

I'm not making any insinuations here, I think he should have had a shotgun. I'm just saying, he could have left more than a slight sting on the little bastards if he wanted to.

Police are considering charges against this man for rightfully defending his home? Methinks one of the thugs he whipped was the "precious snowflake" of one of the police crew.

godwin5: I guess it's like getting hit with a section of Hot Wheels track.

Dude, that smarts!

As the grandson and nephew of police officers, I'll tell you this--

1) The police don't like it when average citizens make them look ineffective to the general public, and

2) The police will go for the easy bust every time. Rounding up young, violent, and possibly armed hoodlums? No effort will go into that one, it's dangerous and you can get hurt. But a law-abiding homeowner who calls you after he drove off a bunch of potential home invaders with a weapon? "We're sorry sir, but you may have committed a crime while defending yourself and your property..."

RealFarknMcCoy2 2008-08-17 08:15:08 AM
I can pretty much guarantee the police aren't going to press charges against this guy, because:
1. They have no "complainant" AND
2. Since they have no complainant, they have no evidence

Kinda hard to press charges against someone when you can't prove they did anything "wrong". They are only saying they're considering charges because they don't want people to start wreaking "vigilante justice" against lawbreakers, but let me assure you, the local cops in my neighbourhood (and I live very close to Wahroonga) made it clear to me they'd be more than happy if I were to "make a citizen's arrest" of anyone robbing my property. I assured them that, if I ever caught the person who has already robbed me twice "in the act", they would have to come and scrape his sorry arse off my porch... They were more than fine with that.

All you guys talk tough "I'd pul out my gun if that happened" I call bullshiat. Half of you would cry like little girls, the other half would hide under your bed & call the police on your cellphones.

This isn't the wild west anymore. Grow up, put your guns away & at least try to act like a civilized human being. Nobody's going to murder an intruder for crashing a teen's party.

Australians of today would be disgusted if people behaved like the ANZACs did (unfortunately).
