You know what the punishment for screwing around with a zep song is?

The death penalty.

/not kidding

Considering that Robert Plant is one of their biggest fans (new window),
you FAIL.

Personally, I think they were guilty of being far too clever by
half and mixed up too many disparate things, but their stuff
was sure interesting.

God, dread zeppelin sucks.

craigdamage 2008-08-17 10:58:45 AM
I bet the morons who think Dread Zeppelin "sucks" are the same folks who think ZELIG is a "bad documentary"

Somebody is not getting something.
Elvis + Zeppelin + Reggae = EPIC WIN

Back in the 80s I actually knew a guy who saw Spinal Tap and thought it was a real documentary about a real band.
He says: "That movie sucked, why couldn't they have made it about a GOOD band?"

I think my friends and I laughed harder at him than the film itself.

True story.
(guy was a Mormon too)

Their first CD was genius.

After that, it just couldn't be sustained.

I'd still see them if they played my local watering hole.

I was confused, or concerned, or scared, or all of the above, but I didn't dare interfere with the performance...

/may be a little obscure
//that was a strange thing I just saw

I heard Dred Zepplin before I listened to Led Zeppelin and I still think that Dred is better even though the Elvis singer schtick kind of got old after two albums.

lokisbong [TotalFark] 2008-08-17 11:54:00 AM
That battle cry was a bit painful.aaaaaaaaahhh haaa...

I'm torn on whether they rock or are just kind of weird. That certainly was a small bass.

GrooveMonkeyZero 2008-08-17 12:43:43 PM
Is that Gary Busey playing guitar?

meehaw [TotalFark] 2008-08-17 12:46:45 PM
Led Zeppelin=over-rated by lightyears.

Dread Zeppelin=much cooler for their satire of this fact.

rudemix 2008-08-17 01:41:09 PM
Dread Zepplin's version of Your Time is Gonna Come always makes me smile.

jonbasini 2008-08-17 01:45:01 PM

I hope these guys are successful,
Saw them 17 years ago in a small club in my small hometown pretty well at theeir peak.
THey rocked, they entertained, were quite funny and musically, were quite good.

Led Zepplin they are not, but they certainly are far better than any tribute band that exists out there. THe genius behind the fusion of REggae and Elvis influences, with Led Zep should really put these guys in the ROck history books.

Perhaps someday, someone with Gilbert GOdfrieds voice and a country music and opera influence, can put together a RUSH tribute band.

Fellow Farkers, take these pearls and get rich

I thought the gimmick sounded really stupid when I heard about them, but I'll be damned it I didn't dig their first album. It could have really sucked, but they were very clever with the arrangements.

That was unpleasant to listen to. Maybe the second half was magic; I'll never know.

ACTUALLY....when they released their first single to radio in '89, the promotional single CD included a :30 interview clip with Robert Plant talking about how much he loved listening to Dread Zeppelin. Here's a video clip of the interview (new window).

Dread Zeppelin is cool, but they lost me with the Saturday Night Fever stuff. Most Zeppelin fans I've known, however, love the Zep covers from Dread Zeppelin.

miltonbabbitt 2008-08-17 02:54:31 PM
Damn...I need some more coffee....

Sorry DjangoStonereaver. I missed your post!

I don't know if I should be amused or offended.

I think I'll settle for mildly amused by an irritating thing. Like a particularly clever RickRoll variant.

rocky_howard 2008-08-17 03:30:22 PM
This is incredibly funny because I was in the midst of listening to the original Immigrant Song before I clicked on the "Music" tab and, lo and behold, here's the Immigrant Song featured in a headline.

Anywa, Fark gave this to me like 4 years ago and now I'm giving it back to you, the Viking Kittens:

/REALLY loves that song.

No its a gimmicky hack band that got old quick, for most of us it was after the first 30 secs of him screeching like a cat in heat.

mfaby 2008-08-17 05:18:15 PM
Ahhhh you haters dont know what you're talking about; even PLANT likes them.

As some said 'Elvis+Zep+Reggae=WIN' all the way 'round!

And Serialkittenkiller? I laughed. Out loud.

phedex 2008-08-17 06:18:14 PM
Replace majesty with travesty, and the headline would be correct.

Carl Sagan's Ghost 2008-08-17 07:34:53 PM
I saw Dred Zepp on Beale Street 8 years ago, they put on a great show. I'd go see them again.

/A deceased friend turned me on to them when he gave me a Un-Led-Ed cassette, Thanx Dave!

phygz [TotalFark] 2008-08-17 07:43:33 PM
I saw these guys at an outdoor concert in 1990. When I walked out of the food section and saw the bass player standing on a speaker wearing nothing but a speedo and headbanging I just about pissed myself. They put on one of the best shows I have ever seen, they really are farking amazing musicians. Here is the original lineup doing Black Dog/ Whole Lotta Love (not a rickroll)

strangeguitar 2008-08-17 08:06:22 PM
I've seen them 3 times, and they've always been the most entertaining showman and musicians I've ever seen.

BigG 2008-08-17 08:27:39 PM
Earguy: Their first CD was genius.

The first *two*. And I have them on cassette.

Much love for this band.

ScotterOtter 2008-08-18 12:49:01 AM
How dare they take someone else's music!! Led Zeppelin would never do that themselves!

It was a tongue in cheek comment, re: Rolf Harris screwing around with Stairway =)

I'll just pretend you're being a little tetchy and that you're the subby ;p

Majesty...does that mean sucks in some language I don't know?

Kazahmish 2008-08-18 04:10:48 PM
you know, I heard the same outcries when Bad News did Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, and all the Queen fans got all bent out of shape.. how DARE they destroy that song like that, I bet Freddie sued them.. ect.. only to find out that Freddie LOVED it and then they started to say.. hmm.. you know.. it's not all that bad..

I LOVE the Young Ones, so I took to it immediatly, as for these guys, I see the humor and gimick and wish them all the luck..

MizzouGuy 2008-08-19 11:49:47 AM
I saw them at the Blue Note in Columbia MO around 87 or 88. They are fun to listen to but a little Dread goes a long way.
