Wow, the bar has really been lowered on that whole "throw someone under the bus" thing.

It's like some conservatives only have a vocabulary of around 300 words.

I'll point out 90% of the leftwing farkers have a vocabulary of only one word for McCain. At least "thrown under the bus" has some relation to the actual events as a metaphor.

You missed all the words they use to refer to Hillary Clinton.

In Obama's defense, this is not the same Wes Clark that he has known for 20 years.

But to not even COME to the convention? That sounds like either he couldn't come to a deal about the VP slot, he was supporting the Hildebeast, or there was a major skeleton in his closet.

Before it was narrowed down to 2 candidates, I thought either one would do a pretty good job (Mccain or Obama). I was actually delighted that the decision was tough for the reasons it was. But after I see (and hear) more and more of each one, I'm beginning to be pushed back to picking the lesser of 2 evils yet again.

I've always liked Clark, but I'm sure that could change with the public exposure given to presidential candidates, though.

Either way, it still comes off as snobbish and elitist to do this to Clark. I'm pretty sure he's a respectable guy, and he's also a big name on the democratic ticket. I don't see why they couldn't give him the podium for a few minutes.

Maybe we could just make the decision by deathmatch.

Rubbing salt in the wound even more, the "theme" of Wednesday's Democratic convention agenda is "Securing America."

Wesley Clark's PAC also happens to be called SECURING AMERICA.

Oh, snap!

Boojum2k: At least "thrown under the bus" has some relation to the actual events as a metaphor.

It's a lame metaphor the majority of the times it's used. Politicians and the media just like to use it to try and make a situation seem worse, to portray a non-existent betrayal.

It's lame in this case, too.

From what the article says, Clarke will not be talking at the convention. I think Obama would have been better off if Clarke talked, but it is hardly throwing him under the bus. His campaing just chose to use somebody else.

As a dirty liter, I don't see anything in this thread painting you as a Hilliary doucher. However, even dirty liters have memories and your behavior during the primaries would convince me that I might sell you some of Hillary's used douche, if I were to happen across jug.

Clark is one of the few brilliant Dems and one with balls.

He really took the fight to the enemy went he went on FOX and won time after time. And he showed fox viewers that Dems were smart and strong on defense. I think quite a view crossover votes come from Clark going on FOX.

Obama never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

I never thought of Clark as legitimate, plus the bug-eyes, but this news that the Obama camp is dismissing him makes me think he has a real shot. Watching Obama's campaign is like watching Penn and Teller reveal a trick while they perform it.

I honestly would like to have seen Clark as the VP.

With Russia flexing as they are, there really is no better way to show the Russians that you mean farking business than to put the guy said something to the effect of: "The farking Russians took the airport? Take the airport, fire on anything with weapons."

Oh, and Zbigniew Bzezinski, his FP advisor. That is pretty much the best choice you could make.

Opiate of the Lasses 2008-08-17 04:55:51 AM
Why does no one think this is brilliant misdirection on Obama's part? I still think the order of VP picks is:

1. Clark
2. Hagel
3. Feingold

4. Bayh
5. Nunn
6. Biden

And those last three are loooong shots.

/it's also possible Jim Webb may have taken himself out of the running to take the spotlight off himself

Poohba 2008-08-17 05:11:33 AM
3 reasons why Clark is the VP pick:

1. The day the VP is supposed to speak is a veteran-themed day, titled "Securing America's Future". That is also the name of Clark's PAC.

2. Oddly, Obama has not yet opened a campaign office in Arkansas. Clark's PAC is located in Little Rock, and Clark is a well-known and highly regarded native of the state.

3. Clark isn't on the list to speak at Denver because Clark will be "out of the country". There was no explanation as to what he would otherwise be doing.

Obama, for his presidency, obviously does not want to be shown up by his own VP. The natural thought would be to bring in someone with a big name who is politically less known.
...but someone with less experience than Obama looks real bad on paper. For this election he needs someone with more of a record to balance out his platform.

I think He needs Clark badly. That is the other half of the ticket if he does not want to be haunted by the "inexperienced" charge.
Bad enough if hes passed over for the VP slot, but to exclude him from the convention entirely... that sounds a bit cold hearted.

Theres got to be more to this story.

It means to not fawn over someone in a way the right wing noise machine expects you to. If you fail to give someone an honor, you threw them under the bus. If you call someone your friend without claiming they're perfect, you threw them under the bus. If you choose an unexpected candidate for a position, then the expected candidate got thrown under the bus. It's a very versatile tool in the right's War on Reason.

Does anyone else see anything funny about Hillary fighting to have her name put into nomination at the convention? Do you really think that the people who worked to make that happen are doing it just so they can show how close the race was?

Hell no. They want the VP spot. Obama may have been forced into a corner here.

You really think a guy who was able to beat The Clintons (c)(tm)(r) in a democratic primary, is going to somehow have the old' switcheroo played on him and he'll be forced to take her as a running mate? The guy is smart. He's not getting backed into anything.

I'm going to go that this is what we would call 'misdirection.' Clark may have supported Hillary in the primary, but he enthusiastically supported Obama once he was the nominee. Even when he made the McCain comment, Obama had his back.
