What are the prisons like in the U.K.? Considering how many kids blatantly stab, slash, beat, and pummel each other over there, I'm guessing it's quite cozy. They seem to want to go. Tea and biscuits at 11.... time for a game of ping-pong before Dr. Who comes on....?

Dear Britain, that's for being so farked up. It's nice to have company.

They should have told the 999 operator that the kid was morbidly obese. He'd have been taken into care straight away.

Or that he was elderly and needed a lift to go shopping.

Scene safety is number 1. If it's not safe you don't go in. period. or full stop. or whatever. You send a patrol first. Of course in America, cops carry guns.

Only if it happens 8 more times.

Fiddy was shot 9 times, not stabbed

I once had a takeaway refuse to take out order becuase they would hear some of my friends making noise in the background over the phone, so I suppose stuff like that could apply to the emergency services as well. Fear of prank calls and all that.

Crazy shiat happens in every country. The Mail just blows it out of all proportion.

If it really is that, it's a really irresponsible policy. More likely, it's because it was too noisy for the operator to establish the correct address and the nature of the emergency.

this.

but surely, this incident must have been caught on one of the million or so cameras the government has put up "for your protection"

While the "stupid" tag is appropriate, I think this article deserves the "Asinine" tag more. "Due to incidents, we can't send an ambulance if we hear more than five people in the background"? Then send some police as well. A person just got stabbed! There's sure to be some witnesses.

BlakeyRat 2008-08-16 09:31:11 PM
The nanny state is better at protecting people against fatty foods than knife violence. Sad.

ssrat 2008-08-16 09:32:26 PM
The fact that someone was reported stabbed/bleeding they should have sent the ambulance and a patrol unit at the same place/time.

Worse comes to worse, the ambulance could just drive straight through without stopping if it was suspicious looking.

The same thing happened during the LA riots, when it was about half engulfed they sent in the fire/paramedics accompanied by a squad car or two.

Of course a little later they said screw it and let most of it burn down

It's because they don't want a riot destroying their ambulance and beating their paramedics. You think an ambulance can just drive into some of the nightmarish ghettoes of America without getting jacked for whatever of value it contains? I'm guessing no, they'd need cops along.

Agreed. It doesn't sound like a safe place to send an ambulance without armed escort. Blame the victim--he died because he was in a gang. This certainly was not out of the blue!

This is a good example of the need for gun control in the US.

Much like Fark. Where every cherry picked weird story from the US that gets green-lit is indicative of how all Americans act according to many non-US'ers.

Seriously, I think many people outside of the US get their "knowledge" of the US from Fark headlines (or Fark-like, every online newsite does a "weird" news link these days) and outrageous Fox News coverage.

Oh, and Baywatch. They all love them some Baywatch.

Actually the prisons are full so they hardly send anyone there any more. Hence, the lack of fear when committing crimes there. Unless you chop somebody's head off all criminals ever get these days in the UK is a slap on the wrist.

Wasn't he only shot in the realm of twice? 9 shots were fired at him, but didn't hit, or so I recall.

If he bled out in 10 minutes then they got the subclavian artery and he was pumping blood out of the wound or into his pleural space and collapsing the lung at the same time which doesn't help physiologically. You wouldn't have a chance of making it under those circumstances unless you were stabbed in the middle of a trauma center OR and a thoracic surgeon was ready on the spot to operate and even then it wouldn't be a good chance.

The most honest answer is, Yes and No. Yes, this shiat happens, but no, the Mail will ignore quotes by the Police about how this area has been dangerous in the past for emergency service in the past, and selectively quote whoever it is will make for the scariest quote. So say there's a fire on one side of town, and a house catches a light on the other side of town in a house where immigrants live. The Fire service says "We were attending a large fire on the other side of town, we were only able to send one engine, which was enough to contain the fire when the arrived." The Immigrant family will say "It was an oil fire while cooking, the first thing we did was call the Fire Service, then evacuate out on the street and waited for them to arrive.". Then what the Daily Mail will do is interview someone from the next street across, ask questions like "Do a lot of immigrants live in this area now? Have their been many fires before they arrived" etc etc. They sell papers based on how much they can make England seem like it's getting worse. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But I'm always somewhat suspicious of a newspaper that supported Hitler all the way till 1939, referring to him as "Adolph the Great".

You cannot justify banning knives until you let some chavs get stabbed to death. Simple as.

Joce678 2008-08-16 10:20:57 PM
Have you seen the crap the goes down in the UK lately?

The chavs over there deliberately start fires just so they can throw bricks at the fire brigade when they arrive - go to a torrent site and download "No Go Britain" to see it.

Also look for "kids knives and broken lives" and "the truth about street weapons".

Bottom line: Expect the emergency workers to be a bit wary when you call them to "one of the most deprived areas in the country" at 2am.

OK, now I'm confused. Do you mean that none of this happened? No kids were killed, or is the part about the 999 operator fake? I don't get it.

I see this happen a lot in WoW. One guy starts spewing obscenities at the healer, runs into a room, demands healing, and "mysteriously" dies. The healer then either rolls their eyes before ressurecting, or hearths out to find a better group.

Maybe if that neighborhood stopped stabbing the hand that heals it, they'd find some healers around when they need it!

It's clear that these teens are getting some giant thrill out of driving a knife into people and becoming pure sociopaths. If they would only be given guns, then they wouldn't be forced to feel the rush of pressing metal into human flesh with their bare hands. Then they could become nice, community contributing career criminals like we have here in America.

So many damn stabbings in the UK lately.

It's like shootings in the states, frankly.
