I have no problem with this.
If anyone knows the inner workings of the streets, the connections, the crimes.. it's the criminals.
So let's say Joe Badguy serves 5 years for a crime, he's not going to get a job anywhere because of his record/likely lack of education. He in turn signs up to be one of these "interrupters".. get's legit pay while helping to clean up the streets he dirtied.

A homeless man was beat to death two blocks from me. A 16 year old kid was shot on 34th and Cass (in a friend's front yard, nevertheless). Last summer there was a stabbing half a block from my apartment building. Two doors down from me someone shot his brother. Yeah. No violence in Omaha whatsoever.
