If they install a missile defense network in Poland, won't that defend against a nuclear attack?

A small part of me wants to see another nuke dropped in anger... it'll really scare some people straight. Or it will bring about a nuclear war... the larger other part of me doesn't want that.

So: try to organize a defensive alliance of all the former Soviet client states who are interested in not being part of Russia.

I think I'd rather avoid the destruction of the human race. Just my opinion.

Russia's always been paranoid about the western armies, especially Germany's. They see their nuclear missile force as the deterrent from another land invasion, ludicrous as that may be to us. A missile shield sitting over Western nations disarms that deterrent, and to their mindset allowing another invasion without fear of reprisal.

A missile defense system to them is as bright a line in the sand as Iran getting nuclear weapons to President Bush. They will NOT passively allow Poland or any other country on their border to have one, IMO.

The Russians were just stating a fact. The first strike targets of nuclear attacks are ABM sites, missile fields, radar installations, and military airfields.

When all is said and done, most major cities are pretty safe. But I have some bad news for the citizens of North Dakota...

Some of you folks have a very broken understanding of the chances of the 'missile shield' shooting down a single long range launch, let alone the kind of 'blot out the sun' scenario that would occur in the event of a russian/west nuclear exchange.

Destruction??? There's almost 6.7 billion humans (headed for 9 billion by 2045) and the libtards are always reminding us that overpopulation is at the root of all our other problems. As long as we get a few weeks of advance warning, I'm pretty confident that many Americans will survive and prosper. The Russians: not so much.

A nuclear exchange (with Reagan's SDI protecting the hometown team) might slow the growth of greenhouse gases and make the next iteration of the United Nations more willing to fund a standing Army, Navy, and Air Force.

From what I understand, Poland isn't involved in the Russia/Georgia hostilities. The Russians just don't want the U.S. building a missile shield in Poland, as they believe it would weaken their position or some such. Anyway, I could be way off, but that's my take on it.

Glad I'm not the only one who realizes that the nuclear shield only prevents attacks from nations with very few nuclear missiles. Russia could overwhelm any nuclear shield just through sheer numbers of nukes.

This is the age of intercontinental ballistic missiles. A huge land mass -- or being bordered by two oceans, a la the United States -- no longer guarantees protection from military attacks.
