I saw the Hold Steady in concert a few days ago. It was probably the best concert I've been to in a number of years.

/Love this video!

Haha, and I thought to myself, "I bet he lives close by."

My friends went to see them at the NorVa a few nights ago, too--said it was a good concert.

Lol, I might have met your friends then. It was a crazy friendly environment! And yes, the show was phenomenal. Craig Finn should give lessons on how a lead singer should act during a show, because he looked like he was having a better time than even the audience members.

ilmaestro: Thanks, Subby .

Glad to be of service!

Starting with Zorro on the organ break near the end, I had the impression the director was stealing my dreams.

Best current band in the world.

Never even heard of these guys before. Thanks Fark.

I just don't get the appeal of these guys. I heard all the hype, downloaded Boys and Girls in America and was underwhelmed. They just sound to me like any number of college bar bands of the last 15 years.

I'm seeing them open for Sonic Youth in a few weeks.
I'm a big fan and I cannot wait.

Love this song, but "Stuck Between Stations" is probably the best song they've ever done. Anyone who's interested in them should look up that song. It's fantastic.

The Hold Steady got me drunk once. That and I ran in to an old college friend workin' the beer tent. He gave me half price beers.

Really, really drunk.

I dunno...

They sound like 'The GO! Team' - the guys in the video with the treadmills

And they guys who released 'Welcome Interstate Managers'

You're thinking of OK Go. The Go! Team sounds nothing like The Hold Steady, is way better (IMHO), and also has three awfully hot women in the band.

Yeah, they don't sound anything like The Go!Team.

And I think Welcome Interstate Managers was an album by Fountain of Wayne.

I've listened to both these guys' albums, and cannot understand the hype. Generic, tuneless rock.

I've seen them twice (so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies). They're excellent live. Great band

Thanks. And the same to guy who said it was Fountain of Wayne.

Now, kindly sires, remove thy shodded appendages from mine
greening!

If you like "Chips Ahoy," check out there new album, Stay Positive. It's "holy shiat" good. Best rock band out there right now.

NOT these. They have four albums. The first two, Almost Killed Me and Separation Sunday are gems. Boys and Girls in America is great too, and the new one, Stay Positive, is, as Freddy Knuckles (or is it Right Said Fred?) put it, "holy shiat" good.

It's not just the catchy tunes, people. I love Fountains of Wayne, but holy crap, those guys aren't in Craig Finn's league when it comes to storytelling through lyrics.

No, the band YOU listen to is boring and the singer sucks!

Wow! Subjectivity is a hard concept for some of you, isn't it?

If the lead singer of The Hold Steady is a good singer, who's a bad singer? He sings and they sound like he looks, like a lumpy potato trying to sell me insurance.

I was going to say that but you summed it up very nicely.
