The Pussycat Dolls are as poppy as they come.

Don't worry the impending wave of Guitar Hero pop stars will come along to bring a new fresh and original sound.

Actually this MTV stuff is just rigor mortis when the biggest concert event of the year is Hannah Montana.

1) Turn on drum machine

2) Lip synch

3) Take off your clothes

4) Profit!

And did any of these people actually make videos?

Does anyone anymore?

Did MTV ever play them? Or did MTV just watch YouTube to find nominees this year?

The Pussycat Dolls are hot. Not as hot as Hannah Montana, but still hot.

Ugh...my wife listens to Z-100 in NY (when she's driving) and right now she's got the Sirius in the house set to the Sirius Pop station blasting...

1 hour 39 minutes and 40 seconds to go before I can set it back to Octane

Pop is dead? What the fark is that supposed to mean?

The definition of "pop music" is whatever the radio decides to shove down the collective throats of all teenagers everywhere. So how can "pop" ever be dead? Is submitter suggesting that pop music had any integrity to begin with?

"Rock is dead", now THAT'S a legitimate statement.

But hard rock is doing just fine.

I originally came to say something like this, but I got distracted by The Pussycat Dolls.

as gay as it sounds, I'd say the Jonas Brothers are way more feminine than the Pussycat Dolls, but it's nice to see tranny fetishists out themselves.

that said, I don't think I've heard one Jonas Brothers song, but I've seen them everywhere I go. Also "MMMBop" plays every time I go to the grocery store. WTF?

I hope you're joking. MTV2, which was suppose to be the original MTV, transformed into an even shiattier version of today's MTV.

/Now we need an MTV3.

J. Frank Parnell 2008-08-16 02:05:00 PM
All that's happened is the corporations have tightened their grip on pop music, allowing no one they don't support in, and having MTV play their bands in rotation until people like it.

Nicole Sherlizinger or whatever is freaking hot, though.

jimmyhaha [TotalFark] 2008-08-16 02:21:10 PM
MTV made it's choice back in '85 when Kajagoogoo beat out the Minutemen.

actually, POP MUSIC is very much alive

it is ROCK music that is dead. NO classic rock album as come out in over 12 years (OK COMPUTER) and if you notice, there is no new rock stars anymore, not in years.

Not dont get angry, when I say no classic rock album, i mean CLASSIC.. , Ive heard a lot of great albums, but no classics anymore.

Mainly because rock is not "dangerous" or rebellious anymore. It does not shock or offend anymore. It is just on its last gasp. It is no surprise that the band that produced the last classic album, radiohead, does anything BUT rock now.. they are looking, unfortunately electronic music doesnt seem to be it either

I see you haven't heard the Raconteurs.

Combustion 2008-08-16 05:12:55 PM
But MTV2 will sometimes play Beavis and Butthead. So they got that.

FunkOut [TotalFark] 2008-08-16 07:49:21 PM
I don't think Pop was ever alive in the first place so it can never actually become dead.

But it will eat itself. Perhaps it is a virus.

Actually, Costello lost to those dorks who sang "Boogie Oogie Oogie."

/Not that it really made that much of a difference.

The Raconteurs suck balls. So do the Killers. Shut the hell up about the Arctic Monkeys.

Dear Music Business: you can NOT raise me on Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Doors, Van Halen, Nirvana, Radiohead, and heck, even Genesis -- and then expect me to consider this crap to be rock'n'roll.

It's over.

Mmm, no classic rock album since OK Computer? Well, taking into account you consider "OK Computer" to be "classic" rock in the first place, I don't know what to tell you man.

Galaxy of Prawns 2008-08-17 06:55:34 AM
Yeah! Pop is dead! Every single pop song on the charts ten years ago was musical GOLD, I tells ya!

Heck no! In Rainbows is a classic too. And Green Day's American Idiot and COLDPLAY's Rush of Blood are classics as well. Those albums are built to last and will be remembered in future decades.

Unfortunately, that's nothing compared to the whole slew of classics that came out in previous decades. Today's music is not built to last. It's not that the Jonas Brothers are a fake TV band (so were the Monkees, for that matter), it's that the Jonas brothers' music, unlike the Monkees' music, never goes further than generic vanilla and will not last for future decades.

Yeah! Pop is dead! Every single pop song on the charts ten years ago was musical GOLD, I tells ya!

Heck yeah! Don't forget the Macarena.

And don't forget Sara Bareilles' Love Song, a good song on today's pop charts.

Dude, the one on the right's a dude.

Seriously, it's just one over-modulated 'singer' and her backup pole-dancers. I'm betting Rob Fabrice is behind the curtain.

Pop will never die as long as the drooling masses are listening to it. It's music for people who do not understand music.

purntronics 2008-08-18 05:37:37 PM
Pop music has resulted in shorter shorts and more cleavage for young girls.

I fail to see the problem.

Loose morals = downfall of christian conservative moral authority. Keep up the good work, Pussycat Dolls.
