Talk about striking when the iron is hot.
/I'll get it if he keeps the guitar tracks that Buckethead recorded

I saw a list once of all the things in musical history that had happened in less time than GNR has gone since the release of their last album. A lot of really great bands, including the Beatles and Led Zeppelin, had their entire careers in less of a timespan than the time between the last bloated GNR piece of shiat and this one.

There's just absolutely no way this can be any good at all.

*take a deep breathe*

Ok.

First of all, Appetite For Destruction is one of the greatest hard rock albums ever conceived. Flame all you want, you're farking wrong. Use Your Illusion is also for the most part an excellent album (or two albums, in a Kill Bill sort of way).

Second, "exclusive at either Wal-Mart or Best Buy"...holy farking shiat.

Third, and most importantly, Guns n Roses is dead. Whatever Axl Rose is doing is "The Axl Rose Project" and has nothing to do with Guns n Roses.

Now begin the flaming about how GnR is somehow related to hair metal and how it was Nirvana's two chord rock and not GnR that saved rock from the hair band horseshiat.

The point of it all is that even the greatest bands have 3 great albums in them at best and Chinese Democracy won't even be counted next to Gnr Lies.

And please guys, don't re-unite for a cash grab like Van Halen and Kiss did. I prefer to remember you as you were when my sternum was broken in the mosh pit at the GnR/Metallica concert.

Third, Guns n Roses is dead. Nothing new worthwhile is going to have the GnR name on it. That's why we record shiat.

Let's just call it 'Chinese Democracy Forever.'

So you're saying Chinese Democracy will be GnR's St. Anger?

I'd agree, but St. Anger has the distinct advantage of EXISTING.

/not that the existence of that album is a good thing
//just sayin SA is better than CD by default
///i'm gonna get Desu Magnetic [sic] when it comes out
////so is nearly everyone who says "METALLICA DIED WHEN CLIFF DIED/ WHEN LOAD AND RELOAD CAME OUT/ WHEN ST ANGER CAME OUT/ WHEN LARS SUED NAPSTER/ WHEN JAMES WENT INTO REHAB!!!1!"

I was told I would be getting this for free when I purchase Duke Nukem Forever.

They're waitng to breed unicorns, so there will be enough for everybody when the album is released.

Shackler's Revenge they say is almost all Buckethead.

I read an interview with Bucket that said he is on every song, and has another 40+ songs recorded with GnR

..also, out of the 13-ish songs I have so far, I'd say it's better than Use Your Illusion II, and on par with Use Your Illusion I.

This news will excite literally dozens of people. Some of them might even be out of jail.

If you have the same tracks I do, your analysis is spot on. Its worth buying if it indeed comes out.

I saw this band in Halifax in November 2006 and this coked up dude named Axl Rose was playing a bunch of GnR songs.

I think the Blue Jays will win another World Series before they release this album.

I'd also say that that is a very, very narrow gap to fit into, as UYI I and II are very close to each other.

I'm really digging on Shackler's Revenge, if that is indeed what the song is that leaked the other day..

Stinky McButt 2008-08-16 01:02:33 PM
I hope Axl immediately hits the road for a great big tour of him no-showing every venue!

I keep listening to it, a lot.. i like it. The ending really doesn't feel right, though. I hope on the actual disc, it goes immediatly into the next song, because it feels like there's supposed to be more there.

I predict Chinese Democracy will be delayed when some obscure one-time member claims that they actually used his track and no credit was given.

/count on it.

barneyfifesbullet 2008-08-16 04:10:43 PM
Whatever it is, it isn't a Guns 'N Roses record, it's an Axl Rose record. He's the only Gunner left.

Everyone else is just a hired hand.

I am so damn sick of hearing about this shiat. On the .001 chance its actually really, really good I know I will farking hate it just out of spite.

With the current music that's been in circulation since the release of their last album, people won't know what to think.

As for all of the songs I've heard off of CD (plenty have leaked) I gotta say it's not bad. Some ballads, some industrial, etc. Seems like it will have a lot of variety. I like it.

As for exclusive release.. Great idea. I can see a retailer paying a large chunk of change to get this album exclusively, which should offset some of the costs the record company had. Hell, they might even push the advertising for it too. Just don't make it a Wal Mart exclusive. Hell, do they even sell albums with swearing on them yet?

CornFedIowan 2008-08-16 05:48:19 PM
Is there a pool on whether "Chinese Democracy" will come out before or after democracy in China? If not there should be.

coco ebert [TotalFark] 2008-08-16 06:46:17 PM
Fark needs a "Democracy" tag. Just for this topic.

drumsac 2008-08-16 06:55:51 PM
I love how Axl is always caught by surprise when somebody in the band goes off to work on another project or just quits (in this case, Robin Finck, as mentioned in TFA). Oh Axl, if you would just release some new music and manage to get through a tour without it turning into a circus, you might be able to keep musicians interested in playing with you. Some of those guys don't give a crap how much you are paying them - they just want to play some damned music.

If this album comes out, I won't be able to use this graphic anymore:

this is what would have happened if Roger Waters had kept the Pink Floyd name instead of the other 3. Sure, Axl/Roger were the driving forces of their respective bands, but when it's just you and some other musicians, it's the very definition of what Roger would call a "Surrogate Band".

why, ron thal is way better?

How can this album come out exclusively through Wal-Mart when they dont allow albums with a "Parental Advisory" label?

Shackler's Revenge can be heard on YouTube. I won't bother posting the link because they keep getting taken down.

Shackler's is probably the best song I've heard out of all of the leaks. It absolutely kicks ass. WOW.

paradroid 2008-08-19 01:00:20 PM
Shackler's, like most of the other new Axl tracks, sounds less like a drunken, dangerous rock group on the prowl, and more like one rich idiot throwing a tantrum, failing around for a modern sound, and settling for Linkin Park circa 2002.

I thought "There Was A Time," his attempt to recapture "November Rain," wasn't a bad piece of songwriting. Other than that, the new material is characterized by a horribly one-note vibe: Literally all of the lyrics are Axl Rose's expression of hatred, but it's weird, New Agey hatred. Like late Michael Jackson material, it's stuff that no normal human being can relate to.
