Nice misinformation... seeing as how it was Obama's idea and not Hillary's to give her a moment in the spot light at the convention. Obama's magnanimous display has actually gone a long way to killing the PUMA movement and bring together the party. But go on and keep believing that Hillary and Bill have hijacked the convention if it will help you sleep at night.

Code_Archeologist: killing the PUMA movement

Look, "the PUMA movement" is maybe 5000 pissed off women in various different states, given a much larger voice by a media desperate to handicap this race to force people to keep watching "THE MOST AWESOMEST POLITICAL NEWS TEAM FOR POLITICS AND NEWS" shows.

I don't think Obama is worried about the cheesecake brigade. He should be more worried about people who are honestly unsettled with his race, his perceived lack of experience, or his religion.

Where do you idiots come up with this stuff? Try talking about the real issues. Oh wait... that would make you look bad.

It's called party unity. The biggest hurdle for the Dems to overcome is not any particular candidate, but the fact that ALL republicans have known to vote for McCain for quite some time.

The Dems have been torn between two lovers. Some people will not vote for Obama unless he throws a dog a bone and lets her into his limelight.

Sadly, some die-hard Hillary supporters still won't vote for Obama. Either they move to McCain or don't vote at all.

For the most part, you don't see this happening on the Republican side. The Wal-Mart nation just votes along party lines.

Yes, yes, I am sure there are some Republicans who feel that they are making an informed choice by voting McCain, but the sheeples far outnumber those thinking for themselves on that side of the shiatpile.

It's an obvious, but necessary move on Barack's part to include Hillary. Yay, politics.

AzDownboy [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 02:30:06 PM
I believe the term is "picking your battles"

Letting Hillary speak at the convention with a roll call? A little downside, big upside. The major downside is pride f***ing with ya

Foreign Policy? Whole different ballgame

BoneStorm: For the most part, you don't see this happening on the Republican side.

Uhh...except for the Young Evangelicals who aren't happy with McCain, the Military, who traditionally vote GOP or the Veterans.

And then there's the RON PAUL!!!11 people, and the Bob Barr people, and the anti-immigration people.

There were many more of them a couple months ago... but Obama has been charming many of them into his camp, and a lot of "undecided" Democrats are waiting to see how he treats Hillary at the convention.

BoneStorm: Sadly, some die-hard Hillary supporters still won't vote for Obama. Either they move to McCain or don't vote at all.

I don't think so--I've talked to a few of these crazies. The dog-and-pony show Hillary's going to perform at the DNC will finally shut them up. Their biggest complaint is that they feel Obama "stole" the nomination because the FL & MI votes were split. She did win the most INDIVIDUAL votes (granted Obama's name was never on the MI ticket, but we'll ignore that for now), but he got the most delegates.

When the roll call is all over, the PUMAs & other Hillary supporters will no longer be able to biatch & moan. They'll see for themselves that the Democratic Party still wants Obama over her. There will still be some die-hards (be sure to watch Hillaryis44 that night), but you know what? In the end, everyone wants a Democrat in that office. They'll all say right now that they're going to vote for McCain, but when they're alone in that voting booth, they'll vote for Obama.

jake_lex [TotalFark] 2008-08-17 12:06:38 PM
The Democratic Convention will end up being an Obama lovefest. There will be a roll call, true, but it will be carefully ordered so that Clinton never leads the vote. In fact, with all the superdelegates who've moved over to Obama, her final count in that vote is likely to be significantly lower than it was. Hillary will give a rousing speech releasing her delegates to Obama, and it'll end with Obama giving his acceptance speech in front of a fired-up crowd of more than 75,000.

The Republican Convention will be all forced smiles and phony "party unity" talk as everyone mutters to themselves "Really, we nominated him?"

They are political people, they'll do what all political people always do in these circumstances: save themselves. Money and work go to downballot, more local candidates...like the 8 Republican Senators up for re-election that are not attending.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-08-17 12:18:07 PM
I'm going to type this very slowly so everyone gets it. Obama was against a war that now has a roughly 20% approval rating. Hillary voted for it and McCain says we're going to be in Iraq for the next hundred years. So kindly STFU about the trustworthi-ness of Obama's foreign policy.

To paraphrase Winston "Zedmore" Churchill, Obama is the worst candidate except all the other ones.

Code_Archeologist: There were many more of them a couple months ago... but Obama has been charming many of them into his camp, and a lot of "undecided" Democrats are waiting to see how he treats Hillary at the convention.

More than that, the most strident of the PUMAs are chasing people to him. My mother was middle-of-the-road Clinton supporter. Liked Hillary, concerntrolled about Wright, et al. But, she was mortified to see the PUMA yayhoos (including Larry Sinclair, Harriet ("inadequate black man") Christian, etc.), at the Rules and Bylaws Committee, and supports Obama pretty strongly after that.

Hillary has no control over the "cheesecake brigade" that have taken up her name. Give them enough room at the convention to look like absolute morons. Heck, I'd rile them up... nominate Sebelius for VP. Let them scream, cuss, spit on Sebelius, and stomp out. I'm betting very few Clinton supporters will follow them.

Only then, after three and a half days of all Clinton all the time will the convention then, finally, turn to its nominee and allow him to have an hour in the sun!

Yeah, at Mile High in front of 60,000 people. McCain would be lucky to fill the bleachers at a Little League ball park. And judging by the pictures, we know he couldn't keep people awake. Suck it, Dick and Eileen.

Still my guess as to who Obama would pick to govern with if he knew he was going to win in November.

Arguably, her name fell down because of the Georgia situation (thinking Obama needs foreign policy experience on the ticket). Sebelius has, of course, every bit as much foreign policy experience as Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, or W Bush (poor example, I know) did when they became President. But, there is a certain sexist thought of "Non-biatch woman couldn't possibly handle foreign policy".

Also, I don't see how any of this seems like Clinton forced him into it. It seems like he offered it. Party unity is big on his agenda, so why not give her supporters a bone?

Either way, I'm willing to bet that neither of them are going to call foul on the coverage, because all of this faux concern stuff is really driving up hype for the Dem-Con, while the republicans will be lucky if they can get more than 15 people to watch old Dumpy McGrumpyPants wander around on stage for an hour offering such incredible bits of wisdom as:

"Anybody else as tired of four dollars a buck a buck dollar gallon as I ... Ah ... Are you my daughter?"

"No, John, I'm senator Joe Lieberman ... I think it's time for you to take your pills and have a nap. Did somebody make a poopie? C'mon John, back to the home."

Oh.

What party is Obama concerned about unifying?

Oh.

Alternately, If Hillary remained married to an admitted, adulterous scumbag, could we trust her to deal appropriately with foreign admitted adulterous scumbags?

One F Jef: Party unity is big on his agenda

FIFY.

Obama is pretty big on finding common ground wherever he can with whomever he can. Like he said in one of the Democratic debates, he disagrees with Tom Coburn on nearly everything but they are still friends, and there is a bill known as Obama-Coburn dealing with one of the few things they agree on.

Obama will probably counter the "foreign policy inexperience" by doing two things:

-Hit McCain hard on his various foreign policy lapses (Shia vs. Sunni, et al) following the convention.

-Pick a day (or two) to roll out foreign policy heavyweights who have chosen to endorse his candidacy. I'm thinking Powell, Hagel, Zinni and others from the military and political world.
