While I hate this John McCain, a bitter old man who never got over being beat by Dubya in 2000, his son being a crook should have nothing to do with his qualifications for president. McCain being a senile, crazy old man, suffering from PTSD and several misogynistic complexes as well as being a warmonger and just another puppet to those who profit from war, should be considered as his qualifications for president though...

I like how the WSJ just says that he didn't have anything to do with it, and then quickly moves to wrap this bank in with every other bank problem today.

Since "guilt by association" has been a theme among the GOP and Cheesecake eaters, it seems only fair that this doctrine should be equally applied in this instance.

For the youngsters who might get the reference, here's a refresher: Keating Five.

The S&L crisis feels a lot like the subprime mortgage implosion. Remember, we did it first in the '80s.

There is no evidence that the younger Mr. McCain committed any wrongdoing, or that Sen. McCain, the Republican presidential candidate from Arizona, had any knowledge or involvement in the bank's woes, which partly stemmed from troubled construction and land-development loans.

No, it should not. The one thing that I've most liked about Obama's campaign so far has been his unwillingness to stoop to the level of his opponents, either Clinton or McCain.

And it was this kind of thinking that led Kerry to losing the 2004 election.

Well, that and being a robot.

Locke3k: And it was this kind of thinking that led Kerry to losing the 2004 election.

I believe the "robot" part was a greater factor. I've said this before, I know, but this campaign reminds me of when I take my dog to the dog park and I see some chihuahua going crazy and barking at a 200 pound mastiff. The mastiff just kind of looks at it as if it's thinking, `What? Really? Sure, little dog, you go with that.' But it never feels threatened enough to bother barking back.

Someone replied the last time I posted that with:
Or he could do what my dog did once. We were at the dog run and a little terrier was standing there giving her shiat for like 5 minutes. She stood there and took it... took it... took it... then finally she tackled the terrier and put her jaws around his throat. Needless to say, it was a compelling argument.

And maybe they are right, perhaps there will come a time when Obama will need to make such a "compelling argument", but that doesn't mean his campaign needs to point and say, "See? See? His son looks dirty, so he must be too." It's much better for him to point and say, "My opponent is a man with a respectable history of service to this country, but it is now time for us to put him on an ice floe and push it out to sea."

I know your panties are in a constant state of twist, as you watch McCain's campaign crash and burn and you're left with no recourse but gibbering and drooling on yourself, but perhaps you should have read the comments in the thread before posting. The closest anyone has come to "bashing" McCain is to say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

No, I believe it's the thread where we're supposed to bash Obama for something Obama's wife allegedly said (but never really did say), or something Obama's preacher said, or something some guy (who Obama sorta knew from some board that he and the guy used to be on) did in the 1960s. Would that be better?

Must run in Repugincan families.

NEIL BUSH.
In 1990, federal regulators filed a $200-million lawsuit against Neil Bush and other officers of the Silverado Banking, accusing them of "gross negligence" contributing to its $1 billion collapse. "Our conclusion is that Silverado was the victim of sophisticated schemes and abuses by insiders and of gross negligence by its directors and outside professionals," FDIC Senior Deputy General Counsel Douglas H. Jones said in a statement.

Bush was reprimanded by the Office of Thrift Supervision for "multiple conflicts of interest" as a paid director of the S&L, including his approval of $132 million in loans from Silverado to two business partners, Bill Walters and Kenneth Good.

A good point, but too wordy. Next time, try something like this instead:

'oh, would you prefer us to go back to bashing Obama for something his pastor said...?'

short, to the point, and snarky.

Commercial Banks

Contributions to Republicans - 52%

Contributions to Democrats - 48%
(new window)

Let's see now...we have a bunch of small-to-medium sized banks failing because of the housing bubble poppage, and banks give almost equally to Democrats and Republicans. In the Farkiverse, one one party is more guiltier than the other in all of this.

All of this was driven by the securities industry with its insatiable appetite for mortgages to be bundled into securities - basically a big pyramid scheme.
