I impacted a surface-to-air missile with my own airplane

... wait... so he flew into the missle?... on purpose?

/What... an... idiot.

If I listened to ABBA, I would fly straight into a missile too.

I doubt that many Republicans are going to cross the aisle for any reason.

No, I think his taste went bad first, then came ABBA, filling the void where his taste in music once was with harmonious, vapid, disco-infused fluff. In fact, I don't think John McCain was alone in his taste in music going into the shiatter some time in the late 1960's. It certainly explains a lot of what happened in the 1970's.

Wow, is there anything that he can't pull out the POW card for?

beerrun [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 09:35:56 AM
Here's hoping that the POW card works as well for him as the 911 card worked for Giuliani.

ZachF81 2008-08-15 09:38:33 AM
They played ABBA in the prison as a form of torture, and after awhile he just began to enjoy it. Sort of how the terrorists in Gitmo are starting to really enjoy the sport we call water boarding.

awfulperson [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 09:40:35 AM
McCain went on to explain, "when I was held hostage, I used to sit in my tiger cage for hours and listen to ABBA songs. But since I've come back to the U.S., and become the Republican Presidential candidate, I haven't listened to one ABBA song. That's because my life is as good as an ABBA song. It's as good as Dancing Queen."

EvilEgg [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 09:48:05 AM
I don't blame McCain for liking ABBA, I blame him for not having to good sense to be ashamed of it. We all have guilty pleasures, there's nothing wrong with that.

Skleenar 2008-08-15 09:49:08 AM
Gee. Mr. McCain is just such a little songbird.

AzDownboy [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 09:52:25 AM
His taste is clearly bad. Everyone knows "Take a Chance on Me" is the best ABBA song

I used to do a lot of water boarding when I was living in Southern California. I'd catch a wave every chance I could.

I absolutely love ABBA.

How can one NOT like them? Their songs are so fun and catchy.

The same man who finished 894th out of 899 at the academy, but still got to fly fighters (and crash five of them without being disciplined) because dad and grandpa were admirals.

Stupidity: Serious business.

Well at least he tried and showed up for the war, unlike some other candidate.

Considering how much the five jet fighters he crashed and all that hospitalization he subsequently had cost taxpayers, he'd have been better off not showing up.

Didn't 9/11 "impact" McCain, too?

Why does McCain hate America?

He's getting as bad with his POW stuff as Rudy was with 9/11.

Your time as a POW is not always relevant, John. Please stop trying to insert it into every conversation.

I would have said not EVER relevant anymore, being as he is now pro-torture, but yeah, you said it well.

Cocksucker.

Holy crap, the Viet Cong tortured John McCain gay!

rynthetyn 2008-08-15 11:52:29 AM
It's fine if he wants to admit he likes ABBA, but to blame his taste in music on being a POW?

But, since he's the one taking us down that path, I've got to ask, what other questionable habits and tastes did he pick up during those years?

No, no, not on purpose. Just think of the missile as a sort of small, airborne farmers' market...

Between 1967 and 1973 the US underwent a significant attitude shift, both cultural and political. Whether you think these changes were good or bad, you must agree that there is no going back. John McCain, locked away during this time, was not here to observe or assimilate these changes.

Is it any wonder that he reacts with confusion to many of prevailing attitudes shared by his fellow citizens? An entirely un-ironic fondness for ABBA is just the tip of the iceberg. The man is seriously out of synch.

The funny thing with people who serve a long time in the military is that their tastes in clothes, music, etc. undergo two 'freezepoints'; one, when they elisted, and two, when they're separated.

Crocodile 2008-08-15 12:17:10 PM
No no no.
He wasn't shot down in '76. He was shot down in '67. But he didn't get out until '73.

By '76, he had no doubt discovered his wife had gotten fatter, and so he had started bangin' a few hot chicks. He was very likely getting them drunk in bars/clubs to the dulcet notes of the music of ABBA.

Thus the fond association.
