You can fool some people some time, but you can't fool all the people all the time.

and by some people, I mean enough of the electorate in certain swing states to affect the presidential election. Oops!

But Hey, I can write a bestseller too! Chapter 1. ...
...Obama has thus far not answered to the allegations made by some that he was known to anally pleasure neighborhood cats in crowded playgrounds on Sunday afternoons before he became involved in politics....Obama is linked via Kevin Bacon to an all-communist cheer-leading squad in San Francisco where abortions are considered recreational activity. ...Obama is totally gay for Kim Jong Il (according to some).... Obama has plans to keep all of America's prettiest white women in a harem, and has brought Dolomite onto his advisory staff as a pimping expert...

We can go on all day, I like this game. I need a publisher.

If you don't like Obama's policy position then don't vote for him, but lets keep the duping of America's most gullible constituencies to a minimum.

Slaxl [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 07:38:39 AM
Now, are the books flying off the shelves because everyone is an idiot, or because a lot of people are just suckers for controversy and won't necessarily believe what's being said in the book?

Thought the Kim Jong Il and abortion things may have legs, everybody knows that Rudy Ray Moore is dead and Kevin Bacon is a Republican.

I do really like the way the Obama campaign is handling this, as opposed to Kerry. They know you can't take the "high road" with this shiat. You have to destroy whoever says it.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 08:11:46 AM
I think very few of the people who will read this book were on the fence about voting for Obama in the first place. Obama had to make a decision whether or not to draw more media attention to the allegations in the book this by fighting it. I guess after Kerry he would be hesitant to stay quiet.

a lot of times these books are brought by conservative book clubs and the like to help inflate numbers. They then go on to sell them for a fraction of the price.

"What about the two hundred k for your phony foundation, Dick? How about the ten thousand copies if your goddam autobiography you muscled me to buy -- what's all that, ancient history?"

Obama could be the anti-Chuck Norris. It all comes clear when you watch Walker: Texas Ranger in reverse.

This right here. The number of books sold for these right-wing whack jobs are artificially inflated. If you are part of some right wing group's mailing list you are libel to get one or more of these books in the mail for free (or as part of your monthly/yearly subscription) in the next couple of weeks.

Face it Obamafiles, the damage is done. This book is wildly popular, more so than the lame "rebuttal" Obama issued will ever be. It's already a NY Times bestseller.

This is all meaningless since Hillary is going to get the nomination.

Most people who will be reading it are the people who had zero interest in voting for Obama in the first place. Classic circle jerk. Much like Fark is for Obama supporters.

Perhaps. I would tend to agree save for the fact that this will push more lies out into the public conscience, regardless of whether people read it or not. Will it change minds? Probably not. But it will guarantee the persistence of ridiculous falsehoods.

And for what? One of the least credible people I can think of. I heard that 7 of his first 9 footnotes cited himself. But who are we to let the facts get in the way of a good smear?

If I were Obama, I would have found a way to quietly finance an author to write a book about Corsi. I suggest the title "Purveyor of Lies."

#1 with a flag indicating bulk sales. It's the Sammy Sosa of bestsellers. I hope the RNC finds the waste of money buying them all up worth it.

Well, Obama better not publish a rebuttal of this, or the even more people will know about the book. As long as he ignores it, the liberal media will bury the story.

I mean, it's not like Corsi's gonna go on the Larry King Show or anything. Obama's already too powerful to let something like that happen . . .

lulz...conservatives love to make fun of celebrities and 'popularity' as bad things except when they turn around and point out how great sales are for their fodder books. Then it's suddenly this great thing to be associated with the rubes who make American Idol famous.

Tu quoque fallacy. Plus, Corsi's book isn't a tell-all. It's a hit piece whose sources largely include his own musings. If you want to opt out of scrutiny of the book, fine. But let's not pretend it's legitimate because there's a bunch of other self-serving crap out in print.

Right, because former Bush administration folks have no credibility--they're clearly biased liberal moles that were placed by the DNC, whereas a World Net Daily* author who's "goal is to defeat Obama" is completely unbiased and trustworthy.

The response I would have like to see:

Reporter: "Sir, do you have anything to say in response to Corsi's accusations?"
Obama: "Who?"
Reporter: "Corsi, who just published a book about you. He also wrote about Kerry in 2004."
Obama: "Oh, that guy. He's batshiat insane. And you can quote me on that."

To be fair, former Bush administration folks really shouldn't have any credibility. They lied then, why should we believe them now?

So far he has kept quiet.

Yeah, I'm kind of divided on how to regard those guys. I can believe that some of them actually didn't realize what kind of operation they were signing onto. Paulsen, Whitman, maybe Powell. McClellan? He's an interesting one. I could believe he really is/was that naive - he always looked like a babe in the woods. What makes me think there's something to his story is the fact that he's been willing to get skewered by his former "friends" and colleagues.

But you're right in that the 11th hour conversion is awfully convenient sometimes.
