Always enjoy ads for movies that have yet to be released which say they're going to be cult classics.

/it doesn't work that way

I'm already sick of this song, and I know I am going to have to hear it about 11,000 more times before I die.

The soon-to-be cult hit "Rock Me Sexy Jesus" from upcoming movie "Hamlet 2"

Nothing has ever been forced into a cult-hit. There's nothing all that interesting or clever about this song. It's barely provocative, and it hits the lowest common denominator of humor.

I'm not saying the first three lines or whatever didn't make me go, "Yes I like weed, heh" or whatever but after that it was a well choreographed trainwreck overweight with the burden of its own awesomeness.

This might be a cult-favored fail, but that's about it.

How this doesn't get a Best Original Song nomination...

You know it might be viral marketing indeed, but I submitted this, and the only reason I did was because of a random "rock me sexy Jesus" comment on my Facebook page a few hours ago. It's already a cult hit, I was just pointing out the obvious.

It's not a scary controversy to make you buy movie tickets. Sometimes a spade is just a spade. Relax.

Confabulat [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 05:12:50 AM
Although I think some of you guys think you're far more clever than you really are. OMG it's all a trick!

Passive Aggressive Larry [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 05:18:03 AM
That was... uh, pretty annoying actually. I think I might skip this movie now. When I heard Pam Brady was involved I became intrigued, but damn, that song was just farking stupid and farking annoying. And I like some pretty farking stupid shiat too, but unless that song somehow works better in the context of the movie, I doubt I'll waste much time on Hamlet 2.

kind of like a late-in-the-show snl akit that starts with a sort of funny premise, barely squeezes out an early chuckle, then keeps going long after the dead horse has been thoroughly beaten.

of course, half my posts are like that (only half, you say?)... so there you are.

No, THIS.

I was hoping for more of a Love Shack sound and less of a High School musical sound.

/Disappointed.

This looks like the kind of movie that will be on Comedy Central within a year. I'll probably just wait and watch it then.

Another example of the difference between "funny-funny" and "Sundance funny".

Aw, from the trailer I expected that song to be much better. Time to put this on the "movies I'm going to skip" list.

"Viral marketing"? Hardly. This is a sneak preview, not some psychological attack on a populace of consumers

I was singing it like that too before I clicked on the stupid link. That would have been 15,527 times better than this was.

Whew, I was worried this was going to turn into one of those late summer movies that everyone ends up quoting all the time, but it looks like most everyone else thought it was as stupid as I did.

linc654 2008-08-15 01:17:42 PM

I love Steve Coogan. While the previews don't really sell it for me, he does. Plus, it's got some decent reviews, so I'll be checking out Hamlet 2.

Rock me sexy Jesus - Nil pois

/yawn - with 'Piss Christ' as the gold standard this is about a 2/10 on the sacreligeousmeter

DrBenway [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 06:41:41 PM
The trailer for the movie was more entertaining and interesting than this clip of one full song. If the movie as a whole is as good as I'd like to hope, it would be a pity if people didn't see it because they were already sick of this one tune shoved down their throats before the film even hit the theaters.

Great_Milenko 2008-08-15 07:00:05 PM
ohhhh, I'm all shocked that they put Jesus in ironic and 'sacreligious' situations.

ohhhh, they're singing warmed over, grease-style broadway crap with naughty lyrics.

ohhhh, this blows.

Great_Milenko 2008-08-15 07:01:12 PM
Yukon Cornelius: This looks like the kind of movie that will be on Comedy Central within a year. I'll probably just wait and watch it then.

What, they're actually releasing this crap in theaters?

barneyfifesbullet 2008-08-15 07:02:55 PM
That's what happens when gay film students get a budget.

Crap.

Not a fan of context, I take it.

Shenanigans! 2008-08-15 07:22:56 PM
So "Rock Me Sexy Jesus" is nothing like "Rock Me Amadeus," and Hamlet 2 the movie has nothing to do with Hamlet 2 the very funny play.

This is a double fail in my book.

If when they say it's a cult hit, they mean you'd have to be the cult-joining level of stupid to enjoy it, then I'll give em that.
