Wouldn't have cared in '98. Don't care now.

Well, I can't stand limp bizkit and I'm really not that much of a Marilyn Manson fan either, but I like Wes Borland. I think he's a pretty good guitar player.

Youtube search for "Duke Lion" - at one point, that was his "real band", and he considered LB his side project.

Anyone who's willing to do that song is OK in my book.

Borland is a great guitarist, prob is Manson has as big an ego as Fred Durst. Not sure if this marriage will last.

ukiah 2008-08-15 02:26:44 AM
Wes Borland was the only good thing about Limp Bizkit, and even then I'm sure he didn't get much of a chance to showcase his talents behind Fred's awesome rhymes.

Dinty Moore's Law 2008-08-15 02:52:59 AM
Sorry, but Zal Cleminson did the mime shiat 35 years ago with SAHB and created better music than Wes Borland could ever imagine in his wildest dreams.

Necrosis 2008-08-15 03:04:59 AM
Fred Durst guitar solo! So bad it makes my cry:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MI-_jWAmlE (copy and paste, I'm lazy and a little drunk)

Anyway. Borland is kinda cool, interesting that Manson can still pull some big names for his (now) ever-shifting band. We'll see what comes of it. I used to be invested, now I just watch from the side.

I enjoyed hearing the "twang" sound from his latest album.... it was a nice change... i guess that dude is gone

Wes Borland was to the '90s what CC Deville was to the '80s. Terrible, terrible and an extra helping of terrible.

Hell yeah man, I hear that he knows how to play "Smoke on the Water"!

This will either be the sweetest thing of the decade or such an embarassment that we will all weep for how cool we thought these 2 artist were.

50/50.

Not too bad, seems a lot like Orgy (guitar-synth?). Could use some more 'Candyass' era Orgy stuff...

Read in an interview Wes Borland is into circuit bending, so he's got my vote.

Say what you want about Limp Bizkit & Fred Durst but Wes Borland is one of the rarest of creatures- a talented guitarist.

craigdamage 2008-08-15 11:56:20 AM
This is mathematically impossible.

A negative plus a negative is supposed to make a positive.

Instead, this creates a VORTEX OF SUCK

Anyone whose lame fabricated image is the primary source of their identity is absolute pure FAIL.

All the REALLY great pop/rock "stars" were first and foremost composers and original creators. That is their merit and what clothing they wore or acted like only came later. Even Bowie. Before the "shock" and "glam" that dude could rock and write superb music.

All that time kids waste now with getting all the right tattoos, piercings,"Goth" gear...etc...when they should be locked in their room with a drum machine and or chord charts and scales, whatever and practicing their hearts out.

Doing it wrong--and it REALLY shows.

MrHacks: Wes Borland in his band Black Light Burns - Lie

It's pretty good. And as much as I hate to admit it, *some* of the Limp Biskit stuff was good, too. Manson? It's hard to get past the "look at me I'm so shocking!" vibe, because, like Jane's put it, nothing's shocking, so he's just being a dork, imo, but he's got some good stuff, too: Dope Show, Beautiful People, good stuff.

Anyway, like Self sang, "Let's go trick or treating dressed up like Marylin Manson." Was that a dis? I dunno. But he's overrated, and pretty much blew his load a while ago.

I don't think Manson + Wes = interesting ...

I mean, somethings don't go well together ... I thought when Chris Cornell joined up with the Rage - Zach, it'd be good. I thought when Dave Navarro joined the RHCP that it'd be good. I thought that when David Bowie got together with Reeves it'd be good .. OK, that was pretty good, but still not as good as you'd have thought.

Oh, and must I say how disappointing it was to see Scott Wieland + Slash + Duff + Matt + that other guy in Velvet Revolver, instead of their native environments, i.e., Guns N' Roses and STP?

And Remember when Steve Vai joined up with Night Ranger to make some extra cash?

I don't think "new" Marylin Manson band is gonna be that good. I bet Wes is doing it for the $$$, not that there's anything wrong with that. Hell, if he could be in Limp Biscuit for that long, you know he did it for the $$$.

The Glass Dragon: Black Light Burns is awesome.

Have you seen them live?

I love Wes, his sig. guitar is awesome, his playing is awesome, but his lyrics and vocal work was....beyond painful.

People were leaving the show, he'd taunt them and make fun of them, "aw look at the little babies leaving because they have to go to church in the morning"....not cool.

I hope he got vocal lessons, takes his vocal track off of AutoTune, and makes the second album rip the first one to shreds.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI8e8LU4yHU

Yikes.
Check out 5:30--is it me or does he have a sloppy and weak left (fretting) hand?

His tone is thin and anemic to me.

I will say this though, piezo pickups are quite superb. I think his amp may be the source of his lame sound.(he likely "scoops" like all dumb young guitarists)

ezz25 2008-08-15 03:03:18 PM
Will he get a serial killer/supermodel nickname like the rest of the band? my vote is for giselle malvo (dc sniper kid)

Actually, I did. They opened for Sevendust back in December here in Atlanta. I agree his vocals need some work, but the whole band had a great stage presence. Unfortunately some asshole in the audience kept taunting Wes, so during the last song of the set he dives off the stage and starts beating the shiat out of him.

Hey - I don't feel so bad now - my playing sounds like that all the time. As long as I can fret with the index or a slide, I sound pretty good, but once I have to bring other fingers into play, I sound all 5:30.

WOW! This is more exciting than hearing about Chris Cornell joining Rage Against the Macine, or Scott Weiland joining Guns N Roses' band, or Jeordie White/Twiggy joining A Perfect Circle or N.I.N.'s tour line up.

Wow - he plays like that and he gets paid megabucks and sponsorships? I would be jealous, but I know how the "music industry" works.

And I'm with you on the scooping - give me my mids and lots of bass in my tone with just a little bit of treble. Of course, a lot of my guitar work lies in the stoner/doom style and I play through a bass amp, so I'm no traditional guitarist.

/I do have a 7 string guitar
//hard to keep in tune to A with a 6 string - even with 12s

A decade too late for ANYONE to care.

/does Blender have a monkey that throws darts to chose the stories? I slowly suspect this.

Sounds like the kind of music trent reznor used to do but since trent has abandoned it then I guess its fair game.

Im pretty sure they just sponsor it and dont really pick the links to put up, if they did it would just be a bunch of blender page views, god that magazine sucks ass.

never understood the fawning over Borland's guitar playing. I'm not a guitar geek or anything that insists on everything being in 11/8, but at best, he was slightly more interesting than all the other nu-metallers.

gotta give him credit for getting out of Limp Bizkit quick enough.

1997 called, they want their giant music story back

2008: "When we discover time travel, we'll gladly help you out with your issue. Until then, rest assured no one in 2008 gives a flying fark about it."

/sounded better when I thought it up
//lame factor of 4

Good match.. Borland + Manson.
cause i dont listen to either.
Glad Manson isn't paying big bucks and keeping a top notch guitar player from better music..
