(Sign On San Diego) Unlikely "Dancing Queen"? Number one of all time? Really?? I'd have guessed, "Star Spangled Banner." I mean, he knew Francis Scott Key personally   (signonsandiego.com) divider line 39

Yep, John McCain is old.

Bloody William 2008-08-15 12:10:16 AM
Um.. does this mean John McCain is gay?

/Seriously, ABBA?

marcre3363 2008-08-15 12:13:39 AM
I once knew a guy named Francis who wore an ascot.

Not the same thing. But he and McCain have one thing in common.

They both tried to anally rape me.

Twice. In the same day.

Benevolent Misanthrope [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 12:14:52 AM
Huh - you'd think their staffers would have picked better stuff. More... presidential or something. I swear to God, "Dancing Queen" is McCain's staffer's way of coming out but neither asking nor telling.

I just want some Poindexter at his next "town hall" to start screaming "you ca-an dance, you ca-an ji-ive, ha-ving the time of your li-i-ife, Ooo-oo-oo... c'mon John, sing along! I know you know it!"

ABBA?

WTF?

BKITU [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 12:33:24 AM
My friends, that's not music we can believe in.

*creepy grin*

Nothing about the umpteen bazillion versions of the Waffle House Song that's on every Waffle House jukebox? 'Cause, you know...

/pancakes

I hear Barack's favorite song is Jay-Z's remix of Beware of the Boys

"BE CAREFUL OF THE BOYS
YOU'VE ONLY JUST GROWN UP
IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT THAT YOU'VE GOT BEAUTIFUL EYES
ONCE YOU'VE REALISED THIS YOU WILL BECOME SHY
LOOK AFTER YOUR YOUTH
THIS TIME WON'T COME AGAIN"

not really.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 01:01:05 AM
I suppose I should not be surprised tat, as an old geezer, my musical tastes are closer to McCain's than to Obama's. I didn't really think much of ABBA until I saw Muriel's Wedding, but since then I find their songs pretty catchy. Nothing like number one of all time, but not puke-inducing.

/Still wish one of them had chosen Why Don't We Do It In The Road.

Snarfangel [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 01:09:43 AM
I like ABBA. I associate it with fun times on high school band trips.

/You know, this one time, at band camp...

Confabulat [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 01:50:51 AM
I watched Mamma Mia when tripping on mushrooms, and it was the most awesome movie of the year.

The fact that something like this will actually affect how some people will vote makes me sad. Call me a snob, but people like that make me actually consider that taking certain people's voting privileges away isn't an entirely bad thing.

Juansmith 2008-08-15 02:53:51 AM
What I hate is... There's just no chance these lists are remotely true.

I mean, they may actually like these songs, but they certainly weren't selected on that basis. Each song to appeal to a different voting demo. *sigh*

Sun God [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 03:30:51 AM
And neither picked "Georgia On My Mind." Shameful.

SpaceyCat [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 03:45:56 AM
So what's wrong with ABBA? Yeah, it's classic 70s music. Disco, pop, whatever you want to call it. But it's still good!

/alright, Dancing Queen sucks badly, but they do have other songs

CanisNoir [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 06:50:39 AM
Bloody William: Um.. does this mean John McCain is gay?

That's the first thing that popped into my head, then I went into *spin* mode and came up with this.

John McCains abundance of love for Abba just demonstrates that he's very much into Swedish Women, like Joe Sixpack who often dreams of having thier Bakini Team over for drinks and roofies. Just another way that McCain is the Regular Everyman while Obama is Elitist with his U2 Song and Rap.

Yea, spin baby SPIN!!!!

Descartes 2008-08-15 06:52:40 AM
Hmmm, I like two of Obama's choices and I like seven of McCain's choices.

Yes, I'm officially old.

/LOVE that ABBA!

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2008-08-15 06:56:20 AM
McCain likes Dancing Queen cause he used to troll all the discos looking for hot young chicks when he came back from Vietnam.
It was probably on the radio when he first nailed 25 yr old Cindy in the back seat of her daddy's limo.

worlddan 2008-08-15 06:59:56 AM
I can't think about being a child without thinking about two bands.

ABBA
Areosmith (esp. toys in the attic)

My older brothers had strange taste.

As for me, when I think about the words, "I got you under my skin", it's this song.

Artist : Madonna

Title : Love Profusion

Album : American Life

There are too many questions
There is not one solution
There is no resurrection
There is so much confusion

And the love profusion
You make me feel
You make me know
And the love vibration
You make me feel
You make it shine

There are too many options
There is no consolation
I have lost my illusions
What I want is an explanation

And the love profusion
You make me feel
You make me know
And the love direction
You make me feel
You make me shine
You make me feel
You make me shine
You make me feel

I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin

There is no comprehension
There is real isolation
There is so much destruction
What I want is a celebration

And I know I can feel bad
When I get in a bad mood
And the world can look so sad
Only you make me feel good

I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin

I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin

And the love profusion
You make me feel
You make me know
And the love intention
You make me feel
You make me shine
You make me feel
You make me shine
You make me feel

I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin
I got you under my skin

And I know I can feel bad
When I get in a bad mood
And the world can look so sad
Only you make me feel good

I was pleased to see Nina Simone on Obama's list, because she's as good as it gets. In fact, let's play a game, a variation on the "three albums / stuck on a desert island" question.

Ok, you're stuck on a desert island, but you can have with you not just three albums, but the entire recorded works of three specific artists, one male, one female, and one group. Who do you choose?

My choices:

Male - Tom Waits
Female - Nina Simone
Group - The Pixies

And I would be a happy fellow.

Mama mia, I hate to sound cynical, but TWO ABBA song's in McCain's top 5? Methinks I smell a little "strategy for attracting Hillary supporters" going on here.

//Looking forward to his Waterloo in November

Francis Scott Key did not write The Star-Spangled Banner, not the music, at least. He wrote a poem that he set to the music of his fraternity theme song, "The Anacreontic Song."

The original words to that song are about penises and vaginas.

Yes, that's the history of our national anthem. Join me, won't you, in petitioning for a change to something with an AMERICAN (as opposed to British/Greek) history, with words that are about our COUNTRY, not our FLAG?

America The Beautiful for national anthem. Join me.

I liked most of McCain's picks.

But, dude, Obama had Bruce Springsteen - "I'm On Fire" as #3?

What is he a perv?

"Hey little girl is your daddy home
Did he go away and leave you all alone
I got a bad desire
I'm on fire

Tell me now baby is he good to you
Can he do to you the things that I do
I can take you higher
I'm on fire

Sometimes its like someone took a knife baby
Edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley
Through the middle of my soul

At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running through the
Middle of my head
Only you can cool my desire
I'm on fire"

Nina Simone? Fugees? It is rare that a presidential candidate has decent taste in music.

Can't get on the Kayne train though, I don't care if he's a local boy, he annoys the hell out of me.

I'm guessing that the Boss is on there to attract those elusive "working class whites" the same way ABBA is on McCain's list to attract Hillary's crazy old pumas. But yeah, "I'm On Fire" is a pretty weird pic. It's like someone on his staff never listened to the song and only knew the title.

Interesting that McCain, who's been accusing Obama of being "too European," picks a Swedish band as his favorite, while Obama's picking mostly American bands...you'd think that would've been caught by his strategists.

Obama's list looks like a Borders Staff Picks list, but at least it's comparatively up to date.

Is the Republican candidate really the Undead Lawrence Welk? You decide.
