My favorite Woodstock act was Sha Na Na.

It's not as long as it was at Woodstock. These soccer moms and nascar dads stay in line and pacify their offspring with dvds of cars and soccer players so their kids grow up right.

Yeah, it's just the same attitude and drugs and naked wild abandon and statement against the establishment as it was in August 1969.

WOO HOO!

I liked this line from the article...

...head of security Rick Martinez calmly led them into a larger area outside the ticket gate, where they waited calmly

Sounds like everybody had a calmly time.

My favorite Woodstock act was Ten Years After (new window).

I saw the Jonas Brothers on Good Morning America and heard someone compare them to the Beatles. Yes, that is a good comparison, in the Ringo, the weakest link of the Beatles, has more talent than all three Jonas Brothers combined.

madden101 2008-08-15 01:11:18 AM
When they played here in St. Louis at Riverport, I remember driving by the particular exit along I-70, and traffic was backed up in one direction, onto I-270 (which is about a mile away from said exit), and back still another 1/2 mile. In all, I would say traffic was backed up a good 2-3 miles, at least one hour before the concert was slated to begin.

oldebayer: Yes, that is a good comparison, in the Ringo, the weakest link of the Beatles, has more talent than all three Jonas Brothers combined.

You don't like how the lead singer sounds like he's whining, singing, and in severe pain all at once?

Adolescent girls seeking attachment.

Is there anything it can't do?

Does this mean we are going to have legions of distraught Jonas Brothers fantards threatening death on us? COOL!

/I can take 'em all.

Well, if there was ever a time and place for there to be a nuclear attack on US soil, this would be it.

browntimmy 2008-08-15 02:55:49 AM
I guess it's about time for a new wave of boy bands. Thanks adolescent girls, for making the music industry such a flaming pile of shiat.

"Can you give Nick my phone number and tell him I love him?" asked Emily Auld, 10 of Pearl River. She's there with her father Greg who was at Woodstock 39 years ago and says this is crazier."

So, given that her old man was probably at least 18 (unless he was a baby with his parents) at the time of Woodstock, this would make him the 57 year old father of a 10 year old.

Nicely played?

Billygoat Gruff 2008-08-15 07:58:31 AM
This is why I wont think of the children, because they and their parents aren't thinking either

Whenever I hear of the Jonas brothers I always think of Hanson.

As girly as chicks seem to like their men these days, they'll probably save the trouble of forming them and just import them from Japan and Korea. God help us.

Gulper Eel: My favorite Woodstock act was Sha Na Na.

I remember watching the Sha Na Na show as a kid. My Dad likes 50's music and I guess at the time this retro 50's thing was sort of cool.

This image is forever burned into my skull.
Goodnight it's time to go home (new window)

My brother and I would act like Bowser and try to flex our silly little muscles and try to sing really deep.

Corny? Hell yes. But better than Hanna Montana, or the fraking Jonas Brothers.

You'd need to take copious amounts of the brown acid to enjoy this shiat.

My brain hurts just comprehending this. I guess there's no accounting for taste, especially when it comes to amazingly stupid pre-teens.

Someone get these kids some joints and a copy of "Paranoid," stat.

The Washington Post ran afoul of the JB Army recently.

They Love Kevin Jonas! The Pop Critic, Not So Much.

Wednesday, August 13, 2008; C01

The in-box of The Washington Post's pop music critic, J. Freedom du Lac, was reduced to smoldering cinders yesterday, flamed by e-mails from readers angry at his characterization of Kevin Jonas, eldest of the chart-topping Jonas Brothers.

In a profile of the pop group yesterday, du Lac identified the brothers as " Nick Jonas (15; the cute one), Joe Jonas (nearly 19; the hot one) and Kevin Jonas (20; the other one)." He also said Kevin "has the misfortune -- or, perhaps, the great fortune -- of being in a band with two guys who tend to overshadow him."

These words caused offense in the Jonas community.

The editors have decided that it's only fair to give the fans their say. Several of the dissenting e-mails are printed below, with unorthodox spelling and punctuation intact.

As for du Lac and his immediate supervisor, they have been chastised severely and ordered to spend the rest of the week reorganizing Bob Woodward's scrapbook.

I and many other people took offense to the article that you wrote about the Jonas Brothers . . . because MANY people love Kevin, and he doesn't deserve to be disrespected like that. Just because he doesn't have millions of 8-year-olds chasing after him, doesn't mean that he doesn't have a sincere fan base, because he does. His true fans can see that he is funny, caring, and incredibly sweet.

He's amazing at the guitar, and if you've ever been to any of their concerts, you would know that. He spins around probably about ten times, while still playing. That takes alot of skill. He was the first of them to take up the instrument, and deserves alot of credit for getting the band started.

So don't assume that just because some of the shallow teenie boppers don't fall head over heels for him, that there aren't people who truly care about him.

i hope that you get where i'm going with this, and i'd appreciate it if in the future you could refrain from disrespecting one-third of the most amazing band in the world.

thank you,

Victoria

hey there.

i was very upset with thing about the jonas brothers part today! you just crushed millions of girls hearts do you know that?? a ton of girls (me to) love kevin! KEVIN IS OUR FAV. nick and joe are there to but kevin. if you know how much he is doing for the band you would know. if there was no him there would be NO jonas brothers. alot of girls and i were crying this morning and everyday because of the hate that people have for kevin jonas. it is horrible what if we starting saying all this stuff about you huhh?? how you feel. even with all this he still is on that stage every night rockin' out for US! HE is the one that loves us fans. HE always thanks us! and to see so much hate for him breaks my heart! i am a 13 year old girl. and i cant stand when people talk about other people that i love. so you can see that there is alot of hate for him and ya'll don't even care! he could be at collage or doing his own thing now! but by helping his brothers this has turned into a HUGE thing!!! i am going to stop now! becoase i am in tears already ! so i hope you get the picture!

i thought you guys would be way higher than all of that crap.

if it werent for kevin, there would be NO JONAS BROTHERS.

Sydney sent the following message:

how could you be so rude! Kevin Jonas may not be as good looking as Joe and Nick, but if there was no Kevin, there would be no jonas brothers! That's horrible that anyone would publish something so cruel and mean! It's not just adults who read the washington post, there's LOTS of jonas fans too!

Julia sent the following message:

You do not have the right to criticize someone you don't even know! That's not right. That's biased. Ever heard the expression "Don't judge a book by its cover?" That DEFINATELY applies here. I bet if you were forced to spend a day with the Jonas Brothers, or just Kevin, you'd find out he's one of the sweetest, nicest guys around. So please stop hating on him. I thought only teenagers did that, but you're a grown man. GROW UP!

wpmulligan 2008-08-15 02:29:20 PM
Sorry. That was longer than I realized.

srtpointman 2008-08-15 06:26:00 PM
What do they even sing? I didn't know who they were until I saw their name plastered on the back of a few cars in town (apparently to get free tix from a radio station) and then later that day in the window of some teeny bopper store. Are they the ones that people are accusing of wearing Middle Eastern headgear?

ragnarqk 2008-08-15 11:39:38 PM
Jonas Brothers + Woodstock = blasphemy.

theiceberg 2008-08-16 12:10:48 AM
As much as my 7 year old daughter loves the Jonas Brothers, I still believe Behemoth to be the better band.

bigtotoro 2008-08-16 12:14:13 AM
Yeah, I remember a few years ago when I saw Panic at the Disco (for the first time) on the cover of Spin magazine and I recoiled in horror at the sight of them. I recalled my grandfather doing the same when picking up a Duran Duran record of mine 20+ years ago. I came to realize a few things and you lot need to learn this as well.

1. This isn't for you. You are no longer a target market. No one cares what you think.
2. People 10+ years older than you made fun of the crap (and it was crap) that you listened to as well.
3. This is the big one. It will come as a surprise to many of you. You are old, now. Seriously.

So shut up your damn whining and go mow the lawn. And turn down that damned mid 90's Red Hot Chili Peppers music while you're at it. Don't you know that they haven't made a good RECORD in 20 years?

bigtotoro 2008-08-16 12:17:47 AM
ragnarqk: Jonas Brothers + Woodstock = blasphemy.

Green Day + Woodstock = Blasphemy
Collective Soul + Woodstock = Blasphemy
The Cranberries + Woodstock = Blasphemy

That corpse has already been violated numerous times. And in truth,
she wasn't that pretty to begin with.

Mode101 2008-08-16 02:55:32 AM
No, Woodstock was violated, but Jonas Brothers was the final insult. The bukkake of this whole episode.

Bye.

Martstar 2008-08-16 02:57:09 AM
I decided to check out the Jonas Brothers just now, and I'm scared by the fact that I actually don't entirely hate them. Nothing spectacular, and I'm not rushing to download torrents, but it's above average for contemporary radio-friendly pop rock.

/Which I know isn't saying much....

1.- Your father was horrified because it was Duran Duran, not because he was old.

2.- Maybe, just maybe you're horrified because Panic At The Disco is trying to emulate that old-school 80s look and you have already grown out of it.

3.- I love the Beatles and I ws born in 81, so age has nothing to do with it.

4.- I'll stop listening primarily to old music when they start making worthwhile stuff.

/Loves Duran Duran, but c'mon...

bigtotoro 2008-08-17 12:32:40 PM
Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way defending this nonsense. But, even at 27, you're too God damned old to be outraged by music that is primarily aimed at a early teen/pre teen market. And little girls, at that. Don't you have a 401k to look after now?

rocky_howard 2008-08-17 02:23:30 PM
Oh I know, but the thing is that I'm part of a radio show on a local station and the station focuses in this kind of music, so I'm kinda burned out of Jonas Brothers, High School Musical and crap like that.

Funnily, my show is nothing like the station's schtick. In fact, they present us as the "Black Sheep" of the family, lol.
