Bob: No shiat.

The sad thing is, that there are idiots who are eating this up with a spoon.

But, folks need to posture during and election year, and look like they're doing something. When they're not doing jack or shiat.

But, let's settle in to hear from the peanut gallery about all the wonderful plans that we SHOULD have done.

It's funny, that so few of them include condemning Georgia from using a ceasefire to pull in tanks and artillery...

I hope Barr gets the chance to be in at least one debate with Obama and McCain

I hope Barr gets a large number of votes. I want Obama to win, but I would really like to see the LP take over as one of the two major parties, instead of the current crop of repubs (and yes, I know about Barr's past. I'm saying this while assuming his current positions are true to how he would govern).

And he's absolutely right about this

The problem is that Barr can be right on an issue or two, and to be honest, I think that Ron Paul brings some issues to the table with him as well--but taken as a whole, there's some wingnuttiness.

No candidate is perfect though. There are certainly issues that I don't agree with Obama--FISA and a few others--but I think he's the best over all candidate for the country.

Though I still wish that McCain hadn't gotten all goofy and windsocky. I would gladly vote for 2000 McCain--but now he's turned into Bizarro McCain who has pretty much given up any of the issues that I liked about the man. Which says something about his character there, considering what a hard spin he's made. He doesn't flip or flop, but just keeps oriented with whatever way the wind is blowing, and pretends that no one is going to notice the shift...

And that he doesn't even acknowledge the shift in position is what bothers me. It's like he figures no one is going to notice. That he doesn't respect the voter or the public enough to pay attention. He doesn't respect the voter, and wants to treat them like they were slightly retarded children, fine, but I'm not voting for a leader who doesn't respect the electorate.

That's not setting the bar very high. I'd rather see dam near any party take over for the current crop of GOPers. And that includes the American Nazi Party. At least they'd have no shot at winning.

How about actually voting for the person instead of the letter next to the name? It's a lot better policy than voting straight party.

It's certainly a more noble sentiment, but how much can a single person do in office? Not much- every elected official operates as an arm of their party. If they didn't, their party wouldn't support them.

No matter what motivates you at the polls, you vote for an R or a D or something else, but not for a single person.

You are absolutely correct. It just so happens though, that parties were created as a categorical grouping of people with the same values and policy interests, so it is very possible that a consistent party voting record is voting for your preferred policy. I mean, sometimes. Neither major party covers all my policy interests, but you can get close.

I too would like to see the LP take over for the GOP. It would force the Democrats to get back to their fundamental roots. America and the whole world would be better off if the GOP just imploded on its cognitive dissonance.

Kohl: If he didn't want his party to win, he wouldn't be in that party. Or he'd be Joe Lieberman.

I want the dems to win now, but know full well that if/when they do (especially if they win BIG as is likely) in short time they will do what the repubs did and become massively corrupt.

That being the case, I want a second party that has completely different ideas there to balance everything out. So if the dems swing to far in one direction, the LP would be there to pull them back.

Currently, the dems have ideas and plans, but I think it's only because their time as the whipping boys (2000-2006) allowed them a lot of freedom to stray from the center and try new things in terms of policy. As they regain lost power and then some they will (and have been) move further from "we think this is right" and towards "we think this will give us money/power".

So for that reason, I want a solid 2nd party to provide a balance. I think, given the options, the LP is a perfect choice.

Is it suppose to mean that Barr is a shill for the Republican party?
