Right... and Syd Barrett drove himself nuts by ODing on Flintstones Chewables.

FTFA Bono recently praised his U2 bandmate The Edge, claiming he is the most influential guitarist since Jimmy Page.

Bono snorts 'salt' for his 'voice'

So? A lot of singers either snort or gargle saline in some form. It actually helps a lot, especially if you sing a great deal. Frankly, I'd be more surprised if he didn't.

Bono did a cover of it for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack

Salt up the nose sounds nasty. I've heard of people abusing themselves, but not assaulting themselves.

The Edge? Oh...you mean, "The Echo"...

That's so stupid. Everyone knows you're supposed to drink urine for that.

Nope. Single molecule, crystalline organic in the form most commonly taken.

Well, add 'I think' to that, it's been a while and I'm unsure I'm recalling the molecular diagram correctly.

elvindeath 2008-08-14 04:51:46 PM
I don't know if the Edge is particularly influential, because his sound is pretty much unique. It's not like everyone is out there running riffs on 3 second echo delays.

He is, however, a fabulously underrated guitarist.

I saw him in Schipol airport a few years back. He thinks nobody will notice the fact he's a short arse if he wears platform shoes and shades. It doesn't work - he just looks like a midget in huge shoes.
I've also seen John Claude van Damme in an airport. He was swanning around in a pigskin jacket with blouson sleeves. He is also diminutive, but carries it better than Bono. Big fat arse on him though. Waddles like a bloody pigeon. Belgian f*ck.

Precisely.

These guys deserve a special Grammy award for staying in front of the camera so long after their music began to suck. I havent bought a U2 album since Actung Baby my sophomore year in HS. REM kind of went this way, with less success.

Depends. Is this the English actor, the Heroes character, or the actual invisible man?

Snorting dry salt and snorting salt water are two different things.

My husband had recurring sinusitis from mashing his face against a steering wheel. His doctor recommended a concoction of salt, a touch of karo syrup, and distilled water to be sprayed up his nostrils to irrigate the sinuses and prevent infections from getting a foothold.

/tried it on myself when I got sinusitis a few times
//weird and uncomfortable
///effective

Do not attempt! I've tried this before to clean out snot before singing. I must have done it wrong--I got a sinus infection that ruined my voice for several weeks.

I get to geek out on some chemistry, hooray! ... Cocaine of the snorting variety is a salt, cocaine hydrochloride. The cocaine of the smoking variety (crack) is cocaine in it's non ionic form, or the "free base".

GavinTheAlmighty 2008-08-14 10:27:07 PM
Having idiotically snorted lines of table salt, I can say that he probably doesn't snort lines of table salt.

Yes, you're right. Doing it wrong.

My wife does it about every 3 months now, and 'loud breathing' i.e. snoring went away completely. I tried it, but evidently it isn't meant for a trunk of my size. The sensation was exceedingly bad.

I've sewn up my own cut hand and legs after an accident, and it was more pleasant than doing this.

It did clear up my sinuses for a couple of days, but didn't feel worth it.

A long long time ago he was edgier. Now he could better be called "The Center."

Are you a total douche? How does that response have any relevance to what I said? I like Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver. I don't listen to bands that don't exist yet. As I said, U2 are bland. I make up my own mind. If you're going to come up with some smartass response, at least try and find fault with what was said, don't just go making random assumptions. That makes you look like a dick.

As MaxxLarge said at the beginning of the thread, singers & speakers commonly snort or gargle saline.

As a guy who uses his voice to make a living, I've done it. A pinch of baking soda with the salt water also is helpful.

I do it & it helps, but it's kinda unpleasant.

Perhaps you have this site confused with "fluffypuppies.com" ... if you're going to get all butthurt over a pic someone posts in response to some random, totally unsupported statement of opinion you barf onto a thread, you're in the wrong place, my friend.

My opinion wasn't random (btw, well done on your originality). All I'm saying is your attempted smartass response had nothing to do with my Boobies.
