Thank you, Democrats. You promised to remove corruption in DC, lower oil costs and get us out of Iraq. Three for three!

Throw the bastard out. Seriously. Don't wait for his term to be up, don't justify it with "b...b..but Bush", don't try to excuse him, toss him. If he doesn't resign, and TN won't impeach him now, make him sit in a corner for the next 2 years and then heavily support his primary opponent.

You want me to believe you have standards, Pelosi, have to be BETTER than the republicans, not just "not quite as damaging".

He's been in real estate for a while...long before he got into congress. I'm sure that he wound up on a regulatory body which helps him profit is purely coincidental.

I agree with everything you said, but Heath Shuler is a North Carolina Congressman. He did play football for UT. And then the Saints. Yeah, the latter didn't work out so well for anyone involved.

I hate the Volunteers more than anybody, but RTFA. The deal was in the works long before he even entered politics. If you want every Representative to avoid sitting on committees where they may have a tangential connection, even less would get done in Congress than is already not being done.

When Sen. McCain was doing his highly circumscribed senate investigation of lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Jack's then-firm, Greenberg Traurig, hired McCain foreign policy advisor and lobbyist Randy Scheunemann "for advice on handling the Senate investigation."

Wait. You guys are throwing someone to the wolves over 5 net feet of waterfront on some shiatty lake somewhere and fifteen grand, when the guy wasn't involved in the negotiations and his investment dwarfs the total transaction? Even though he's given TVA no end of crap during his term and there's literally no evidence or even hint of scandal or improper influence?

What, do you want to kick all successful people out of Congress? Is that the goal here? A bunch of poor people who never do anything in life except be politicians or maybe practice law? Is that the Congress you really want?

NOT. HELPING.

When a Democrat does something bad, the correct response is not "Well a Republican did...". This was called the "B..B..but Clinton" syndrome, and it made the GOP look like children.

Do you want to look like a child?

this country can never get better until we start holding our leaders accountable REGARDLESS of what political party they're in.

wow you guys get touchy when I call out your messiah

Listen Schuler is a congressman and I'm not in his district and most of the commenters here aren't either.

So really it doesn't concern me that much.

But if that type of behavior concerns you then a candidate who is running to be your president is guilty of taking his share of the pie. Keating was not the only time he did it. Right now his dealings with Georgia are actually hurting the Bush administration but because Bush is trying to help him they are playing along. If Obama had pulled some shait like that it would over for him. The media and Bush would have his head.

Nemo's Brother: Thank you, Democrats. You promised to remove corruption in DC, lower oil costs and get us out of Iraq. Three for three!

Which is why I want Cindy Sheehan to take Pelosi's seat. That biatch is worthless. I voted for the Democrats in 2006 because they pledged to stop funding the war so the troops would return home. Then they caved in. And they didn't close the Enron Loophole like they talked so much about doing. Its pathetic.

I can't wait until Mel Martinez comes up for reelection. My congressional district is getting a guy named Alan Grayson to challenge this dickhead Ric Keller (If he wins the primary here first). Worthless tool. I believe there's going to be enough hatred towards the Republicans in my area to see a shift back to a Blue district. I know I'm seeing alot more Obama stickers than McCain stickers. My county is almost always Republican.

You are missing the point. What does this article have to do with McCain? Nada. It has to do with Shuler. Responding to everything a Democrat does wrong with "but a Republican did this" makes you look like a partisan moron. There are dirtbags on both sides of the isle...a lot of them. You shouldn't be excusing your dirtbags while trying to crucify the others. Hold them all accountable.

Thinking for yourself is pretty cool, you should try it some time.

Once more.

I am not voting for John McCain. I do not support Republicans. I do, however, support Democrats (to a point). So, when a Democrat does something illegal, immoral, or unethical, I want him out.

I don't excuse the bad behavior of my friends by pointing out the bad behavior of people who are NOT my friends.

The polling data shows them riding high at about 19%! (new window)

Congress is polling at near record lows, the incumbency rate is 98% and nearly everyone will vote straight ticket once again.

But whatever you do, don't be a Fark independent. Do not vote for any party except R or D. Do not think, just vote straight ticket, because This time it will be differentTM and this is The most important election of our lifetimeTM.

So you are concerned about this but Cheney and Halliburton are just fine and dandy? What about all those other contractors who funnel money to the gop?

It will take more than 1 3/4 years to clean up the mess a Reublican congress and presidency made in the previous 6 years. Not to mention with the Democrat's small majorities in both houses of congress, the Republican obstructionists have managed to block any useful legislation.

Dude, that's not what he is saying. He is saying that the entire government is corrupt, so it just seems hypocritical when Republ- I mean Fark IndependentsTM- attack a freshmen Congressmen and ignore others who have much more power and influence. Saying someone is hypocritical about something is a statement on the person, not the morality of the thing in question.

Hobodeluxe, am I correct I my reading comprehension there?

Jonny Chimpo: Dude, that's not what he is saying.

That is exactly what he is saying. Rather than rightfully condemning the guy for doing what he has been condemning (when the other team did it) and instead pointing out how the other team did it is an attempt to rationalize the behavior.

But I forgot...it's no his problem because it's not his representative.

No one says that there's anything wrong with being an independent. The Fark IndependentTM title applies specifically to people that proclaim their individuality while bashing Democrats, but are strangely quiet on Republicans. The result is that people who make it a point to loudly proclaim their IndependenceTM are taken with a grain of salt, because so many seem to be intellectually dishonest about it.

This has already been pointed out a bunch of times but what actions? Any conflict of interest merits looking into, and I'm glad that people are doing it. However, there really doesn't appear to be any wrongdoing here.

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2008-08-14 11:43:50 AM
I never excused Schuler. I'm not convinced anything inappropriate happened either. I just said I have more important corruption to worry about before I worry about this. I just did what I did to demonstrate the hypocrisy of those who flog Heath over this but defend the greatest theft and fraud ever perpetrated on American citizens.

When I see them outraged about this then I'll start to believe their "concern" over corruption.
