God, I hate the Rock and Roll HOF as much as the wretched city its in.

You want an excellent museum? Go to the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. Even if you don't like country- awesome layout.

"Goodbye Cleveland!"

Valdes 2008-08-13 08:18:05 PM
My experience in a Cleveland Taco Bell (1998)
"White boy, you better leave."
"Why?"
"Nothing against you, but white people get shot here. Go find the white Taco Bell. I'm just trying to protect you. Got your back!"
"Thanks concerned employee!!"

My experience in a Cleveland 7-11 (1999)
"Hi... um... you know where the golf course is?"
Me: Looking at bullet proof glass
Clerk: Looks at me like I don't belong here
Clerk: "I don't know."

My experience on a Cleveland Street (1997)
Me: Bright lights
Drunk girl: Die!!!
Me: Arggg!!!
Drunk girl: I hit a telephone pole! Wasn't there a guy in front of this thing just a second ago?
Me: Holy shiat!!! I almost died!!
Bystanders: Off the road you stupid biatch!!

Also, people who happen to be in Cleveland don't want to pay $20+ just to get into the place.

lacydog 2008-08-13 08:34:28 PM
Where the hell did all this Cleveland hate come from? It's not like Cleveland is completely riddled with crime... like, say... DETROIT.

And the RRHoF is a sham. Every single part of it. Most people here agree that it's a joke. Maybe if the induction ceremonies were actually held here, or if they inducted some bands that clearly NEED to be in there, it wouldn't be a joke.

Oooh, it's gonna be in New York? Will the place have hideous bathrooms just like CBGB?

No, it's just *this* short of "nice" in pretty much every rating category, from the winter weather to the women to the nasty foundry smell that's everywhere. The only things I really like about Cleveland are Joe Walsh and the Metro parks.

Personally, if you want to see rock and roll history, check out Sun Studios in Memphis. It's a small site, but the ambience is thick. They made Ike Turner, Elvis, Jerry Lee, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, etc., etc. Personally, I'll never forgive Memphis city fathers (or baby-daddies, as the case may be) for letting the Rock and Roll HOF slip through its hands.

This has got to be a joke. NOBODY listens to Rock and Roll anymore.

The fact that both Madonna and Michael Jackson have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should tell you just how little credibility it has.

You are writing it off based on two inductees? There are all great, less well known, acts in there.

Well I'm no fan of those people either, but I can see why they are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They are influential, albeit it on a lot more shiat, they are successful, and they are certainly farking famous the world over. There are some notable omissions from the Hall, and I'm interested to see what they start inducting in the coming years, but I think otherwise they are pretty darn close to getting it right with who they let in.

And the museum itself does kinda suck, it should be about 3 times as big as it is and not waste so much space with fancy architecture, so they could actually display more stuff. And you should at least be able to take some farking pictures inside the place, but otherwise it was still worth checking out at least once.

Everything I know about Cleveland I learned from "30 Rock", so I thought it was a really nice place.

I was planning on going there so I can have lunch with Little Richard, but now I'm scared I might get shot by a drunk Taco Bell employee.

Really?
You think that any farking nation in the Middle East needs a "branch office" of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

There are nations in the Middle East that will imprison you if you have a poppy seed (pops) caught on your sweater or in the cuffs of your pants, even if it fell off the in-flight sandwich. That's how anti-drug they can be there.

What in the Hell is "Rock & Roll" about that?
People won't goto Cleveland for the Hall...but they'll line the fark up in the Middle East? Right. That's good thinkin' right there.

Yea maybe they should try New York and Las Vegas first, see how that works out, and then try Damascus.

I've played at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in a competition (don't ask) so I'm really get a kick out of these replies.

If you don't like walking through it, try playing on what is the worst stage ever, with the worst acoustics and sight lines ever.

Ironic for something that's supposed to be state of the art, no?

/no, really, I actually did play in there

I liked the RRHOF. There were parts that sucked, but most were pretty cool. The coolest things for me though, were the original scratch pads and pieces of paper that became the lyrics for mega-hits. And lots of cool guitars from the guitar gods.

I guess the point is, I looked for great stuff and found it. If you look for crap, you'll find it too.

That's pretty much the way I felt about it. I spent a long time gazing in awe at the suit John Lennon wore on the cover of Sgt. Peppers, and probably a hour in total just in the Beatles area. I just glanced over a lot of the early rock and the early influence stuff, and some of the newer inductees. But if you want to see some cool stuff from people like Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Who, any of those great classic rock groups, then its definitely worth the price of admission, and an afternoon in Cleveland.

Of course not, that's why it's reduced to having a lame-ass Hall of Fame. Surest sign of death of any art form.

Secret Agent X23 2008-08-13 11:43:55 PM
Well, I got to see David Byrne's "big suit" there, and Neil Young's handwritten lyrics for "Rockin' in the Free World." That's good enough for me.

The Presidents of the United States of America sing "Cleveland Rocks."
My hubby & I went to OH for our anniversary in June. We toured the RRHoF & "A Christmas Story" house all in one day. We had a great time. We also watched the Indians suck, and we walked around downtown Cleveland. I don't think we ate at Taco Hell, but we did do White Castle-that was a bit scary.

Hey! That sounds like "Sunday"!

And That was Ian Hunter, not the P of the U.S. of A. At least, originally.

I've been im 2000, unfortunately they had the HUGE john lennon thing there at the time, I have a strong lennon/beetles hatred.

I liked Cleveland, I think cause i like in an Industrial city and it was alot like home, just bigger, smelled like home though lol

But it was cool, I'm a huge music freak and the best part was seeing costumes worn by some of the members of Parliment/Funkedelic, Bootsy Collins (also part of Dee-lite much later on) and George Clinton. Cheesy, yes. cool as hell, yes.

Wait, was someone actually defending Madonna and Michael Jackson being in the RRHoF? They have no business being in there. They are not rock, they have never been rock, and have no business being in a Hall of Fame for rock. Heck, if I ran the place, there wouldn't be any R&B folks in there. But at least I can see why some would include them.

I can't see any reason for that pair to be in there, except the HoF wanted more money and publicity.

matto14: Ohio America's butthole

You are from Detroit, you have NO right to mock anywhere else in the U.S.

And for the rest of you haters, unless you have been here, stop saying words. If you have been here and still don't like it, fine, sorry you didn't enjoy yourself.

It's no different than most midwest cities, it's a matter of personal preference.

Personally, I like the area, but then again, I know where NOT to encounter ghetto taco bells and the like. The surrounding neighborhood kind of gives it away.
