I do think it's a shame they haven't made a film from "Survivor" yet--that was one of his best.

I think they're up for it.

Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead guitarist) wrote the score for There Will be Blood and it was f*cking BRILLIANT.

Uberchief: I do think it's a shame they haven't made a film from "Survivor" yet--that was one of his best.

I think that I read on Fark some few weeks back that Survivor was also going to be made into a movie too.. I think there were 3 movies.. so.. err.. Haunted?

I enjoyed Lullaby--very interesting read.

But "Rant" is my most recent fave from Palahniuk. I really had a good time with that one.

I saw Chuck speak year ago & at that time, he said that all of his books had the movie options bought. At that time, Jessica Biel had just been cast as the lead in "Beautiful Monsters". I've heard nothing since then that has ever confirmed it, but I consider him to be a reliable source.

He also said that Survivor had the options bought, but after 9/11, the studio that bought it chose to not do anything. I think he said he was hoping that someone else might buy the options or re-sell it when it expired.

Honestly, everything he said after giving a public reading of "Guts" (this was before Haunted came out) was kind of a blur.

Sorry, sir. What I said was harsh. Please forgive me.

I meant to say that they are not my first line of music that I would chose to listen to. Although they have pleasant melodies and obvious musical abilities, I have never been able to grasp the true soul of there music. I'm sure I am worse off for not being able to appreciate their art.

Who am I to judge?

/Either that or I have a wife and a couple of friends that used to play them non stop and they make me want to puke more than hearing freebird and stairway combined.

Radiohead is a great band. They're not particularly accessible, though, so it's easy to understand why some people don't like them. It always takes me several listens to get into their new albums, but once I get into it, I get into it A LOT.

Be glad they didn't, it was greened with Kevin Spacy as Tender. Then 9/11 happened and nobody was going to do a plane crashing movie with a black box narrative.

Clive Owen might work.

GimpyNip 2008-08-13 08:59:29 AM
BTW, Chuck was pretty good up until Diary. Every book preceding Fight Club was basically a Fight Club draft, Choke kind was fairly meh, and Survivor was amazing. I even liked Lullaby as a retarded X-Files episode. Then came Diary.

I think Chuck fans would like Dennis Lehane, though. You can start with A Drink Before The War but you don't really have to in order to read Darkness, Take My Hand.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is perfect for Tender. Can't see it going to anyone else.

I love PSH, especially in Hapiness but I can't buy him as a former playboy. I mean, maybe, because you get the idea from the book that he is selfinflating. As far as acting goes, he could do it but I never really pictured him doing that role.

sararenne 2008-08-13 09:49:21 AM
I just finished reading Invisible Monsters last night, and was told I need to buy Survivor. I really enjoyed Invisible Monsters.
I am starting Choke in a few days. My brother in law bought me four Chuck books for my birthday
I was disappointed by Fight Club the book. Maybe becasue I have seen the movie 800 times.

Monsters is basically Fight Club just in a different setting. Read Survivor before Choke. Choke is OK and a quick read, but be sure to read Surivor before you read anything past Lullaby. Survivor is Chuck's only "great book".

Most of the Radiohead songs I've listened to have the singer's voiced mixed so low into the music that you can hardly hear anything he's saying.

It's annoying

ogger 2008-08-13 11:05:09 AM
really? that's odd. i have all of their albums and find thom's voice mixed up front on all of them. perhaps you need a higher quality setup.

while I wouldn't go as far as saying Radiohead are Aphex Twin knock offs, they were certainly more influenced by Aphex rather than "Share the same mindset".

Nothing wrong with a band having influences, I just get the feeling from Radiohead fans that they seem to think Radiohead is the most original band ever and seem to completely ignore their influences.

I agree completely. It's one of the points I made in the previous Radiohead thread. I also feel the same way about Aphex Twin too, actually. Each has a rabid fanbase that can't see anything beyond the center of their attention. I tend to shut out anyone who just goes on and on about "Kid A" or the "Analord" series of 12"s.

Yeah, but you can basically say that about anything. Look at The Dark Knight fanboys. They annoy the hell out of you with how awesome the movie is and it makes you go on the defensive and think of reasons it sucks. If people didn't keep waving the flag you'd be fine with, yeah that was a hell of a movie. Instead you're thinking, "Did he have to do that voice."

/although, when it comes to Radiohead I usually wonder "Did he have to do that voice?"
