That's mostly ricockulous because in Wis. you can be in bars with your parents pretty young. And you can drink in bars with your parents when you're about 15. Serious.

No I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN'T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD.

Good for him. Keep it up, little man.

NEVER cross a failed, white middle-aged blues guitarist. It's as nasty as telling a drag queen their Adam's Apple is ugly.

Oh wait. a failed, white middle-aged blues guitarist IS a drag queen.

Interesting logic by one person there: "He can't play here because he's too young to work in this state. That would make it against the law. If you let him, I'll kill you." Too bad there's no laws prohibiting that.

Meh.

I'm a Chicago musician who's played his fair share of gigs in Wisconsin (kick, replies, etc.).

Stick to Chicago, kid. Then when you own it, you'll have no problem getting gigs in Cheeseland.

Madison and Milwaukee are really the only towns worth playing anyway.

Why is it that all these child prodgies always blues players, Thomas McRocklin, Kenny Wayne Shepard et al? What does a kid know about having the blues? Being grounded is no where near finding out your woman has a back door man!

/ I get the blues so bad I cant even open my eyes, I have to call my friend over, I say "I got the blues so bad I cant open my eyes, you need to come over and open my eyes for me"

Onkel Buck: Why is it that all these child prodgies always blues players, Thomas McRocklin, Kenny Wayne Shepard et al?

Because in that genre they're able to wank pointlessly at a young age and be thought prodigies?

The answer is simple, all he has to do to get around the child labor laws is to not get paid. If he performs for free, then he is donating his time. Besides being a musician is not work, it is fun. They don't say I work guitar, they say I PLAY guitar. So if you are playing, then you are not working.
Ah, musicians, playing, having fun, and getting paid too! Does it get any better?
PS the kid is awsome!

Chronomorte 2008-08-13 09:41:27 AM
I noticed the fines might be on the low side(?) $25 for the bar and $10 for the parents - I have no idea how much one would get paid for putting on a show, but maybe they could just eat the fines as a business expense?

A statement like that betrays such a fundamental, near-total ignorance of the subject at hand that there's no way we could even BEGIN to have a discussion about it.

Suffice it to say that being a working musician is a full-time job. Yeah, there are perks. But the hours are long, you deal with a lot of shifty people and Murphy's law gets turned up to 11 when you're on tour. You've gotta deal with cramped vans, terrible food, ridiculous expectations and endless complications for 16 or more hours a day just to experience the bliss of performing or an hour (if you're lucky).

Read Martin Atkins' "Tour Smart" or Jake Slichter's "So You Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star" if you want to approach scratching the surface of a clue regarding what being a musician is really like.

Has anyone ever told you that perhaps you are a little ARROGANT! I have been a professional musician since 1969, probably before you were even born. Some assholes take themselves WAY too seriously! And you're right I couldn't begin to have a serious discussion with you either!

a blues guitarist has already failed so this is redundant.

this kids parents are gonna f*ck him up. its jon benet syndrome with sunglasses.

8 year olds should not be in bars. Period.
