Because you certainly aren't lumped in with those bands to millions of people, Liam.

He has personally interviewed all 40 million of them. It's like an obsession, or something.

Lipspinach 2008-08-12 07:51:48 AM
I consider myself somewhat boring these days. Not really ugly, more ruggedly handsome (or so I have been told). Love Radiohead. More or less indifferent to Oasis & Coldplay.

/I must be a rebel!

EatHam [TotalFark] 2008-08-12 07:58:55 AM
Do Radiohead and Coldplay really have that much in the way of overlapping fan bases? I wouldn't think so - I would guess that Coldplay would overlap more with Hannah Montana.

coming from one of the most boring pub rock bands that ever had the misfortune to get a recording contract, that's a pretty big statement.

And by "big" I mean "I'm surprised he could managed to put the syllables in the right order".

Well, I guess not everyone can look like a gorilla knocked up by a Neanderthal, then dropped the baby on it's head from a great height because it mistakenly thought it was flinging a giant poo, eh Liam?

Wonderwall is a lovely song, by the way. Keep up the good work.

CarnySaur 2008-08-12 08:36:35 AM
He can't just lump those two groups together like that. The Coldplay fans are boring, and the Radiohead fans are ugly.
(I like both, so I am indeed boring and ugly.)

Nemo's Brother 2008-08-12 08:36:42 AM
Coldplay and Oasis are two of the most annoying, untalented self-important creations of media panels I have ever seen.

A board room decided "The Beetles are popular. Let's make someone who sounds like them." Now we are cursed with Oasis.

A different board room said "U2 is popular and there are a lot of gays in America." Thus Coldplay was born. (Maroon 5 was also but with less success.)

clevercleaver 2008-08-12 08:37:55 AM
Hate to say it, he's right. I like Radiohead and Oasis....but Radiohead fans do have a tendency to be a little translucent.

Coldplay fans just need nuts. Its true. I can prove this on an etch-a-sketch.

Doc Strange 2008-08-12 09:15:55 AM
So, I'm both a fan of Blur AND Radiohead. What does that make me, Liam? Your worst nightmare?

Some Bass Playing Guy [TotalFark] 2008-08-12 09:25:28 AM
Noel let's Liam speak in public?

Shocking.

I like Oasis, kinda like Radiohead (esp. Greenwood's playing) but Coldplay, meh..

So I guess I'm boring and really, really angry.

Nemo's Brother: Coldplay and Oasis are two of the most annoying, untalented self-important creations of media panels I have ever seen.

A board room decided "The Beetles Beatles are popular. Let's make someone who sounds like them." Now we are cursed with Oasis.

A different board room said "U2 is popular and there are a lot of gays in America." Thus Coldplay was born. (Maroon 5 was also but with less success.)

FTFY.

Neither band was created in a board room. Snarky Farkers might say it was in fact a "bored room." Anyway, neither of them are assembled like boy bands are. I still don't understand the hate these bands receive. Oasis is drunken football hooligan sing-a-longs, which are quite fun. Coldplay is simply a black hole of banality. It's okay when you want to listen to light, adult-contemporary music that is inoffensive to anyone.

Of course, most of us try and avoid the above situations, so there you are.

Baumer 2008-08-12 10:26:22 AM
I just checked myself out in the mirror, proving I have too much time on my hands (= boring) and I've been in better shape.

/love Radiohead
//see them live every time you can

mitchcumpstein 2008-08-12 10:32:01 AM
2 cups U2 + 1/4 tblspn Radiohead + 5 gallons pussification = Coldplay

Glitchwerks 2008-08-12 10:44:50 AM
The things is most Radiohead fans are just on the cusp of traipsing over into really great music. I really like Thom Yorke because he's a brilliantly informed music fan as well as a good artist. He loves dubstep and artists like Burial and Scuba. There's new bands like Our Sleepless Forest that aren't getting any radio play but aren't too far from what Radiohead or Sigur Rós fans would love. Radiohead is an awesome primer for deeper listening. Like Nine Inch Nails (no matter what Fark may think of Trent,) there's an unbelievable amount of music that they reference in their work. I just wish more people would bother looking for it.

Drakuun 2008-08-12 11:07:33 AM
Liam is just angry that he ripped off the Beatles for years and never had one one millionth the commercial success that Coldplay and Radiohead has had.. Radiohead's "OK Computer" was voted Englands BEST Album by a British Artist a few years back, beating out Abbey Road, and several other Beatles albums.

Looks like Liam is just being Liam. Again.. yawn.

Ahh yes, this old chestnut. Let me toss my own two into the ring, Glen Phillips, and Jeremy Enigk. Look them up. Enjoy.

But such counters are silly because they assume all these small time independent artists that are so great don't secretly pine for the commercial success that all these 'lesser' bands enjoy because they are obviously the products of corporate shills, not a culmination of the talent and ability of the artists to speak to broad audiences with their music, and lyrics.

The hypocrisy in such thinking is that, if any band at the top of the heap are shills for being there, then it inevitably becomes the fate of any such artist that becomes "mainstream".

We got carried
Our way over on the rooftops just get merry
All summer we just hurry
So come over just be patient and don't worry

And don't worry...

Try

I don't want to cycle and recycle revenge
I don't want to follow death and all of his friends...

I hate Radiohead, but I don't know that I'd call their fans ugly - at least the female ones. I've known a few really hot chicks who like Radiohead.

Male Radiohead fans, on the other hand, tend to be complete dorks. I'm talking ponytail-wearing, Starbucks-sipping, Macbook-using, angsty wannabe-intellectual hipsters.

Some Bass Playing Guy [TotalFark] 2008-08-12 03:26:58 PM
Radiohead's "OK Computer" was voted Englands BEST Album by a British Artist a few years back, beating out Abbey Road, and several other Beatles albums.

Which once again proves that it's a stupid idea to try to declare any album by any artist objectively "the best".

Oh and just because Coldplay sells records doesn't mean the music is any good. It just means a lot of people like it. I can't fault people for the music they like, even if I don't like it.

Generalize more plz.

If it were one of your favorite artists, you point out how there are exceptions, I'm sure.

You can build up straw men all day, I got lots of matches and lighter fluid.

Every artist takes up their trade to sit in obscurity for artistic integrity. Sure thing.

Winner.

Radiohead and Coldplay are, in my estimation, really solid bands.

Oasis, on the other hand, seems really pretentious and the d-baggery is strong in those Gallagher brothers.

Are Brits suffering from lead poisoning? ALL those bands suck, and make The Beatles seem like gods from Mt. Olympus. Do they not care about quality?
