Why does she want to give money to cancer?

xynix [TotalFark] 2008-08-10 05:59:21 PM
I'm in the wrong business...

Faith Logic Passion 2008-08-10 05:59:45 PM
I wouldn't advertise it. Sooner or later the taxman will come a calling asking "Where's my share?" Then the "cool" tag will be replaced by the "asinine tag".

This is before the city shut her down and arrested her for tax evasion.

How come they didn't include a picture?

That's nice, but it doesn't beat this 8 year old's lemonade stand earning 1 million for cancer. (new window)

Still, very nice.

Wide-eyed and nearly speechless Sidney quietly thanked one anonymous man who walked up and handed her a check for $100. "He didn't even want any lemonade," she said.

I am passing up this golden opportunity to make
a farky snarky comment here

Outstanding young lady

Uh, I know it's cool and all to be Fighting the Man on the Interwebs, but unless she's pocketing some of the proceeds her income from this is entirely tax deductible due to the charitable donation she subsequently makes, and thus the taxman's "share" is precisely $0.

cksewell [TotalFark] 2008-08-10 06:10:42 PM
I want a lemonade stand for charity. To cure, say, Fark's Syndrome. But I will keep all the money.

Not 100% correct.

If you, yourself become a 501(c)(3) that collects donations and distributes to other non-profits you must fill out a special form with the IRS to be tax exempt.... If you don't fill out the form, or you don't start a foundation... Big Government will come to deflower you sorry little 13-years old ass

Considering that a large percentage of cancer research dollars have come from federal source, since the problem is really too difficult to attract commercial research dollars, I have to point out this: you know who else agrees with you?

Cancer.

Don't despair, we are a republic of the people and you have the right to vote for change. Next election, vote for the candidate for smaller government.

There isn't one? Crap.

She's not the charity. She's making taxable income that she then donates in its entirety to a real charity. Thus, $0, as long as she gets a tax receipt from the charity.

Same thing happens if you donate to the Salvation Army or something.

Cancer doesn't need any more money - it's just a lump of poorly differentiated cells. It wouldn't know what to do with cash.
